    Hi yall,
I am rather new to Unity and game development as a whole, so apologies if this question is a bit dumb or has been asked before. How should I build a house in Unity? Would it be better for me to model a house in blender and then import it to unity, or build it in Unity out of, say, a bunch of cubes? I need the house to be visible from the outside and have an exterior as well as rooms on the inside. I am also concerned if The house is one whole model from Blender, will the inside still be functional? All help and advice is appreciated :)

Hi eflack2023, since you haven't got any responses so far I figured I'd chime in with my relatively amateur experience. The annoying part of my answer is going to be, "It depends on what you want to do with it.".

From some of the research I've been doing, if you're looking to blockout a level to test the feel and layout, it's best to do that with ProBuilder. Now, while ProBuilder certainly has the capability of being used in real games, I've found that most developers prefer to use their own meshes imported from whatever 3D modeling tool they prefer, like Blender.

In either case, using ProBuilder or using Blender, you'll want to build the house in a way that has Normals for the exterior and the Interior. Personally, I find this easier to accomplish within Blender but it's certainly doable in ProBuilder as well. I think it largely depends on which you're more comfortable with. I've had a little difficulty with ProBuilder myself, ensuring that the objects I'm creating have the right geometry and normals etc.

TLDR: If you're doing basic blockout stuff, ProBuilder. If you want something a little more complex, go Blender. A single model imported from Blender will work fine as long as both the interior & exterior geometry has normals facing in the right directions.

I'll throw in my very amateur reply as well, lol.
There's an asset on the store called Umodeler, there is a lite version I believe as well.
I purchased the asset about a year ago, but to be honest haven't tried it myself as I have been learning Blender from some great tutorial sites on Youtube, BlenderGuru.

UModeler has some great tutorials and kinda bills itself as a Blender for Unity. It has a lot of great features and seems very easy to use. I was a Probuilder user for a long time, even bought the asset before it became free. I liked it initially but found it had some limitations and decided to try and learn Blender, just enough to create the models I needed.

    Hope this helps you!

BTW, I just remembered that there is a Youtube video showcasing how easy it is to create a house in Umodeler vs Probuilder.
