I've been using Unity for a few days and enjoying it quite a lot.

But now I am attempting to make a robot, physics based, simulation type game.

The physics system is not cooperating with me at all.

I can't make a hinge motor that is strong enough to lift an (unconnected) object with a mass of 10 (for instance) in a slow controlled manner without hinges and connections 'loosening'?

Heavy objects are completely falling through lighter ones.

I'm just getting extremely frustrated and disappointed.

Am I looking at limitation in the physics system or am I completely missing something?

    Any advice would be helpful.

Should I set masses to extremely low?

Should I set my size scales much higher? I can't have things going through each other. (and yes. I have already activated continuous collision detection)
