Highlighting Borders of UI Images

    I'm attempting to highlight the borders of a UI Image element to simulate a selection. I've tried http://wiki.unity3d.com/index.php?title=Silhouette-Outlined_Diffuse and http://wiki.unity3d.com/index.php/Outlined_Diffuse_3. The Silhouette one partially works, but only in the editor, only two sides have a border. As soon as I hit the play button the effect of the shader is completely gone to the camera. The outlined diffuse one didn't work at all.

    What are my options for highlighting a UI image element?

    outline component dont work? (UI->Effects->Outline)

    Didn't know that was a thing.
    It works, but it has a minor thing I don't like. I can make do with it if that's the best.
    When I set the outline to be active and I set it's color to yellow the outline is yellow everywhere but the top segment, which is orange. Is this because it borders an orange portion of my image?

    post screenshot with problematic GUI with inspector settings then we could try to help you more accurate
