    @u_rs it's good weed

    @_jp maybe that's because I added -no-throttle-updates to the launch script, try editing /usr/bin/unity-editor and removing that parameter.

    I had that problem several posts above. With 5.5.3f1 (latest build) there is no CPU problem, I use 16.04 too. Why are you using 5.6, try the latest build. But there the other problem - Unity shuts down occasionally.

    I will try 5.5.3f1,thanks. I used 5.4 before,but it has the cpu problem. Someone said that the problem was fixed by unity5.6,so I download it. But I found it didn't help.Since the moring,I found that I can't launched anymore cause it will shut down by itself. I am confused by that.

    Just to clarify, unity 5.5.3f1 is indeed the latest build from of the 5.5 series. The 5.6.0f3 is the latest from the 5.6 series.

    This is super weird, but after fiddling with closing tabs and such I switched layouts twice ( Window - Layouts - 2 by 3, then chose "default") and now the CPU usage is down to a very acceptable ~10% plus the occasional Web Content spike at ~25%

    Recent builds have another fix for a regression in this area.

    Started Unity for the first time on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and it pushed one of my CPU cores straight to 100% when idle. Did the same thing as you and it went down to ~10%. Wonder why it works.
