Since we're using the editor v 2018.1.0f2, we noticed that even when leaving the editor in an idle state (which means no editing, nor running the game), the editor uses +/- 90% of our CPU. Even killing the editor and relaunching it several times doesn't fix the problem. After a while (can be 5min, can be half hour) it just drop to a few % CPU usage and everything seems fine as long as we don't close the editor.
We didn't experience this problem in previous Unity versions (4.x, 5.x).

    Anyone else facing this issue?

Yes, all 3 systems running 2018.1.0f2 here at work are having the same issue.

In the bottom right corner, do you see it in the middle of light baking?

I'm getting this issue also. It weirdly only happens on new projects, but if I create a project in Unity 5.6 and then upgrade it to 2017.4 then it performs fine. The editor will sit at 90% usage and seemingly have a memory leak while doing nothing on the default layout in an empty project. I wasn't having any problems with 2017.4 before but it seems the whole 2017 line is plagued with performance problems.

You're better off downgrading to 5.6 at this point.

No, it's not compiling scripts or light baking or doing SceneID generation. We've checked a lot. :)

Ironically 2018.1.x is the first major upgrade for us since 5.6.x. But we're encountering this issue regardless of 5.6.x upgraded projects or brand new projects.
