I've noticed a few changes when duplicating objects - numbering and moving them to the top. The numbering isn't even correct if your first object isn't numbered 1. Gameobject 1 is actually the 2nd...

Both of these are annoying to me. Will there be an option to disable them?

Also, how about a Parent To Empty GameObject in the GameObject menu next to Make/Clear parent?

In the preferences you can enable alpha sort, there will then be an icon in the hierarchy to change the sorting.

Not sure what you mean about the parenting. You can just hit Cmd+N and then parent what ever object you want. Is that what you mean?

This numbering is funny. I have objects labeled 2x2, 2x3 etc., and Unity increases the last number when I duplicate them. Definitely starting to miss a toggle for that behaviour!

I want Transform sorting, but not numbering/renaming or moving. Duplicated objects should be added to the bottom but sometimes they're moved to the top.

There are parenting options in GameObject > Make Parent when you have multiple objects selected, but it parents them to one of their other objects instead of an empty one.

Just create the empty one first and drag the others into it. Parenting just works on existing objects.

Haha, all my tiles were named: tile_01, tile_02 and etc, I needed to give them a name that doesnt end with a number and kept the tile numbers in the beginning of the name, if I didnt do this my level's hierarchy would become a big mess... :p

I just discovered that the toggle for alpha-numeric sorting doesn't actually change it either! Off to the bug reporter I go.

It appears on the top right corner of your hierarchy view a button that shows you an option to chose the alphabetical sorting mode!

If you are talking about the auto sequence numbering on duplicate command then thats by design. There was a post about in the beta thread and it's been added to avoid wrong behavior in animation systems or something. I think it was supposed to change in future versions so the naming is cube (1), cube (2) and so on to prevent the conflict with peoples prefab naming ot mycube_1 etc

    Are you sure?

edit: Ouch, I think you were still talking about the object name numbering right?

That's odd... I don't see the Hybrid option on mine.

There are some editor functions that will allow you customize it, but if I recall, it isn't fully functional at this point.

Oh, if I toggle it on in prefs, yes. But mine doesn't look like that!

    Yup,

btw, this hybrid sort will sort everything alphabetically, except gameobjects nested on a gameobject that has a canvas component.

Is there a way to stop duplicated objects in the root moving to the top? (Transform Sort mode.)
