I'm about to be without a phone to test the game on for a few days so I thought hey, let's hit the internet

It's an .apk made with unity, 3 levels of 6, missing badguys and music for the last level, however if anyone wants to try it out they're welcome, let me know how you get on

I've a few screenshots of render vs in-engine emulating Opengl ES1.1, it runs fine on a HTC Desire so you should be ok although i've had problems with Unity running on the Samsung Galaxy S before

    The apk is here http://www.mediafire.com/?8am6r8ay82j54a5

Enjoy! And if you don't, tell me why not!

EDIT: As people have asked, here's the webplayer version although i'm not so happy with it as a representation of both the game in terms of control scheme and the opportunities open with stronger hardware than mobiles http://www.mediafire.com/?jpdb9nb81n8l6bw

Needs to be web-browser based in addition to Android so it can reach a wider audience.

Hm yeah, apk seems to be limited to android phones... How about a version for the other 90% of people? :)

Its easy to switch to a mouse controlled version, the tilt control is based on it, but i've nowhere to host the .unity until I can pay for my hosting again! Unless I can just link the file from mediafire and you can download, I havent been using Unity that long so i'm not sure

Mouse control is very unrepresentative of the game too, which is why i'm wary of providing it, however i'll go and cook up a webplayer version now, should only take a few minutes, although you'll have to do without some of the fancier visual tricks of PCs as i'm just going to enable mouse control and set the texture compression so something that looks ok on the web

Cheers! Thanks to copyright issues I can't see myself making any money from it but i'll make it available on a variety of platforms no doubt, i've still a lot to do, not just in completing the 'emulation' but adding openfeint (for mobiles) and online multiplayer and all sorts of stuff like that, maybe some new levels or chellenges or such and such

Looks like the sort of game that could get featured. You could easily change the actual ball to something else like an octagonal sort of 3d ngon shape and sell it.

It's more the levels themselves that are the problem as they're directly analogous to the original, but i'm not really clever enough to make my own to the same superb quality and i really want to avoid a situation where i create a could-have-been by making something substandard, i'd rather it not sell and it be something nice on my CV

Nope. You shouldn't. 20-30 years down the road. People talk about starcraft 2, angry birds. That will old games too. :D

The .apk is a package that is installed from inside an Android phone, the .unity3d file you should be able to drag onto your browser window if you have the unity player installed

I think I must have this thread the first time around.

The levels in Marble Madness took many weeks of design and refinement for each one, so you shouldn't expect to be able to create comparable levels in an afternoon. That said, the tools you have at your disposal these days are a lot more versatile and powerful than the tools the original Marble Madness designer had available.

My recommendation would be to create a direct clone of Marble Madness, and also a knock-off of it. You personally sell the knock-off through the various channels available to you. You also approach Atari/Ubisoft with your clone and see if they have any interest in an iOS/Android/web browser/Steam/Mac App Store version of it.

The risk to any publisher is low because you have already "finished" the direct clone. If Atari says "no thanks" you have a nice CV piece that you can put on your website and show to prospective clients and employers.

If Atari say yes, negotiate for a decent amount of money as the risk to them is reasonably low; the work has already been done, they are buying an almost finished product.

Again, even if Atari says "no" you have proven to them you can deliver something; ask them if they have any other projects they need done; ask them if they are hiring; ask them if they know of anyone else at Atari who need projects done.

Your knock-off Marble Madness clone, with your own graphics and levels will be very easy to get assets for from other people, for no money up front, and here's why: "You have a complete game."

You ask around and say "I've done this Marble Madness clone, look how pretty it is and how finished it is, but I need graphics to make it original, and I need level design to make it a good game. I will pay you X% royalty should you be able to deliver the assets I need." Where X% as an example would be 5% or 10% of net. You have a "sure thing", i.e. you are not someone saying "I think I am going to make a game and I need this and this and this for free and if we finish it, we might make some money."

You've already got the game, now you just need to make it your game.

My recommendation would be to get Art RFP, Level Design RFP and Sound Design RFP documents together, This will give you a very good idea of what features you want in the game, what graphics need to be created, what audio needs to be created, what levels need to be designed, and when someone says "I'll help" you can send them the RFP document for their specialty, and get some work going. It might take many months to get to that point where the game is uniquely yours, but hey, the time is going to pass anyway.

By the way, very nice work, would like to get an update on where you are at.

And if you have completely finished the game, please send me a link to it and a resume/CV.
