My name is Nathan Moller. I’ve been Cinematic, Narrative, and Level Designers on Mass Effect, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Scribblenauts Unlimited, and Halo 4. I’ve done a couple AMAs, here and here.

Some Seattle dev friends and I are working on a new game called Epoch: Return. It’s a first-person game about a couple of treasure-hunters that crash land on a big rock in space and have to explore the alien terrain to figure out how to get off of it. We’re building it in the Unity engine and would like to involve and share the development of the game with you guys from very early on.

This is just the initial announcement. In the coming weeks and months, we’ll be introducing you to the rest of the team and sharing with you lots of content from the game’s development. The game is in its earliest stages but we hope to make its development a body of content that stands on its own. So here’s some links, and we hope you’ll follow us and join in with any discussion you feel like. For now, here’s the great teaser poster our own Taryn Trousdable came up with, and feel free to ask any questions ya like.

    :D

Sounds like this is the spiritual successor/same-vein as The Dig!
You have some pretty big shoes to fill, but I have faith!

Out of curiosity, you having worked on big titles, why are you doing an indie game now?

That's actually been brought up before by the team. I never did play The Dig but everyone's memories of it are sure positive. Our composer, in particular, was a fan. I listened to the soundtrack on YouTube and was blown away. Hard to believe a score of that quality was in a game from so long ago.

It's basically time to "put up or shut up." My current situation gives me the flexibility to venture out on my own and I've always wanted to make a game of my own. Career-wise, it was a logical next step.

More concept art! This time from our artist, Ryan Gatts. This concept piece gives a great impression of how the gameplay is meant to feel. I think it does a great job of capturing both the alien geography and the freedom of movement that we're aiming for. Enjoy!

Oh, man. They are all universally extremely industry defining levels of big deal. Literally every single game on that list is a The Avengers/ The Matrix/ caliber multi million dollar heavy hitter... except the old republic but that's complicated.

Mu Nansen, It's really jarring to see someone of this status use Unity for their project. I can't wait to see what comes out of this. I myself have a fascination with games with heavy narrative focus and their narrative's integration with their actual gameplay, so seeing you in particular spearheading this interests me definitely. I love the non-custcene storytelling moments in Halo 4 and really hope to see more of it in that franchise in particular. I guess I can credit you for some of that, so yeah. I've never seen your name around a lot before I saw this thread, and after doing some research I guess I've looked up to you for a while this generation. keep it up!

Thanks so much for the support, and while with hundreds of co-workers over the years, I can't claim all the credit for the projects or even really my own individual work within them, I'm certainly very proud of my part in the collaborations that led to these games' successes and look forward to using what I learned from all those great people on this game.
