I just received my new iMac 17" and let it do it's "update the software" thingy, and now it says I'm running 10.4.7. Huh? I didn't think they released it already, did they? Here I was wondering if they were going to charge me for the update and it's already on my machine. Cool!

Apple only charges for major updates. That is when going from something like 10.4.x (Tiger) to 10.5.x (Leopard)

The minor updates are usually just bugfixes, support for newer hardware and security fixes. 10.4.7 probably got installed by running Software Update.

Yeah, 10.4.7 has been out for a while now. I always do those updates manually, some time after they've been released, and wait to see what others' experiences are first. Because you never know...occasionally Apple breaks stuff with their updates. Not usually, but sometimes. The latest Quicktime broke several apps and games, for example, although most have been patched to work again by now.
