Just wanted to let you guys know (I'm sure I'm far from the only one). That I have to leave because of Hurricane Matthew. So I may not be here for awhile, and may loose my house, or whatever else. So just wanted to let you guys know that my absence isn't from giving up Unity haha. But lack of POWER and/or a place to live may very well be the culprit.

I know this isn't directly about Unity. But I like to think I am liked in this community so I am just trying to keep you guys informed of my absence after tonight.

So if I don't hear from you guys/gals again after tonight, farewell and stay safe my friends. Life's to short, go spend as much time with friends and family as you can and cherish the things you got, because they might be not be here tomorrow.

@Martin_H : Eh it's not really so much that it's going to be super strong when it hits my area (Cat:2). But I live in an old 1980's mobile home, so it's not structurally strong like current houses. So headed to my Grand Mothers tomorrow to hunker through the weekend. Hopefully to never loose power and stay say.

If unity crashes couldn't bring you down, it's not some silly little winds that will.

@Vedrit : I don't believe so either. But thanks man. @AntoineDesbiens : Not really the winds that bother me, but the Surge. I live right on the coast. Literally. Maybe quarter mile... Surge is supposed to be in my area 10-15 feet. Heck some areas in my area are 20 feet below sea level, that means, if what they say is true, some towns in my area could be in theory - completely under water. Not sure if a Cat: 2 can do that though...I right next to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. So if you guys would like to stay tuned to my area, that's where I'm at.

Stay safe! And try not to worry to much. I rode out hurricane Ike in a rickety mobile home, and even went through the eye of the storm. I bet you'll be fine.

I normally don't mind a Hurricane. I grew up in the South East, USA my entire life. But being I'm an adult now, I just really realize the repercussions of damages now.. I'm pretty sure I'll be fine as well. I just wanted to keep you guys informed of my absence. I'm mainly worried (for my house) because there's a huge dying Water Oak hanging over our house and the landlord don't want us to remove it. Last tropical storm broke one of the branches and put a hole in our roof. So hopefully if it does fall, it falls the other way...But my grandma's only worried about the surge. But it's just one of them things you just go into it and hope for the best and take what's given to you, that's what happens when you are poor and can't afford to leave haha.

But really guys, thanks for the wishes/luck... Here shortly going to pack my PC up and put it in back of car so we can headout in the morning. So probably fixing to play some more Duke Nukem 3D haha.

@BoredMormon : Yeah they can.... I of course haven't lived 100 years, so I haven't seen too too many personally. But every year I face the threat of tons of them... I'm not really so much panicked. Just more of a inconvenience... Now if this dying tree falls on my house, then I'll be pretty stressed out. But until then, the only thing bothering me is lack of coding if power goes out LOL.

    Stay safe warhead.
I hope all your development stuff stays dry.
I've been through several, although never in a mobile home - that is a good reason to evacuate.
This storm is mysteriously erratic. We were expecting it up here in VA until it decided it wanted to draw a backwards question mark on the map.

This is where I ask if you have a solid version control system and/or backup plan for your project... of course loading your computer into your car counts too. :p

We have a dead pine tree behind our house that has seriously survived just about everything the mountains surrounding our area haven't managed to block and some of the storms have taken down the live trees. If your luck is anything like ours the tree will still be standing long after the house is gone.

    Be safe!

We've recently had some slightly crazy weather here (the whole state's power went out a few days back, that was unusual), but thankfully nothing dangerous.

    Good luck and be safe!

This is my biggest fear, that I will some day find myself in a situation where I can't write code.

Thanks for being responsible and leaving(it sounds like you might be in a mandatory evac area).

Not only does staying during a Category 4 hurricane place a risk on your life, it forces others to put their life in danger to help. Again, thank you for leaving. It's better to be safe.

I hope the current model stays the same, there was talk that the Hurricane Nicole may merge and force it back to the coast. I hope it just rides out onto sea.

I wish your house luck! I'll be watching from Virginia(and hoping it doesn't come our way).

Thanks again guys... I'll try to check in again if power goes out, because then I won't be getting back online until power comes back on...

Rode out the storm here in Jax, FL last night. Looks like SC is getting hit pretty hard right now.

I have been amazed at how much damage the Carolinas sustained.

The Weather Channel said this storm resulted in discussions about changing the hurricane rating system. The rating system is primarily wind-based, but these days we can forecast and measure preciptation and flooding better and that's normally far more damaging, so they're proposing a moisture-driven rating system.

@MV10 Yeah wind is only but a factor... My area was literally like 3 miles from the center of the eye... Wind is bad yes, and causes a lot of destruction. But problem is, flooding can be bad.... Entire Islands were under water (rich people islands). So billions of dollars of damage on one island alone (Hilton Head island). The entire island but the 18 hole on the Sea Pines Golf Course was under water.. Same with Tybee island, GA. The entire island was under water.

Surge isn't no joke. And to add onto the 1.5 inches of rain per hour for nearly 14 hours straight, all adds up, big time.

I feel you there. We had one up in North Queensland a few years back that coincided with a king tide.
