    Unity 5.3

I've got my character, and all scripts containing controllers etc, I just need to know how to add an avatar to start adding bone structure and animations.

    Thanks
    Matt

That's something you do in your 3D modeling package, not within Unity itself.

(Though I've occasionally wanted to just add or tweak the bone structure in Unity too... I've toyed with the idea of making just such an editor extension for the Asset Store, but I don't know if there would be enough demand for it. Most teams are quite happy with their 3D modeling tools for this.)

Nope, sorry, Blender hurts my brain. But I believe there are a lot of tutorials for it on the intertubes.
