Hey Guys, I am Lucasta Miller from US. I just start working as game developer in a business field. So, I am just making a game. I want help from you guys because i am not that much experienced about that. The game is about two dragons and a girl, dragon just have to hold the girl and the game "ll be over if girl "ll get received by the dragon then, points "ll be deducted. So, i just want your ideas about adding some more things in that game and about the name of that game. name should be technical and unique. Thanks in advance.:(:(

Build a simple working prototype that illustrates the core gameplay mechanic. Then post it online (videos, pictures, and maybe a WebGL of it) for feedback.

Thank you for suggesting me something new, As i "ll definitely do that thing but yet prototype of game is not getting ready. Actually that's just a startup level of our business that's why we want some ideas for adding something unique and new in the game and also want some unique names for future use. because if i "ll post something about the game on any website ,For that also we should require some title names or any other ideas. So,can you guys suggest me some websites or threads to learn something new.

I'll be honest, if you have no ideas for names and concepts yourself, yet you want to have your own startup business already, you're going about this all wrong. Don't put the cart before the horse. Figure out what you want, what you can do to get there, and look into that BEFORE you make it a proper business.

I'm just gonna come out and ask this: Is this a real business in the true sense of the word, or is it you and a friend who want to make a game, but aren't sure how to get going?

If it's an actual business, you may be in trouble. It's not a good sign that they'd hire a developer to make a game based on a loose concept, task that developer with naming the game, and that developer seems to be pretty lost in the sauce for where to begin. Unless this business is running on investment from a wealthy family member, I predict the funds will run out soon, and you'll be looking for other employment before long.

    However...

If this is you and a friend trying to make a game for fun that you may end up selling some day, good for you! You've taken the first of many, many steps towards becoming a Real Game Developer.

This is all just my opinion, and bear in mind that I'm a hobbyist and not a game developer by trade. But here's the steps I think you should take to get going:
    1. Learn how to use Unity (or something) - Before you can make a game, you need to know how to do it. Go through the tutorials (yes, all of them) and get comfortable with actually making things. You may find that you don't like Unity and want to use a different engine, or you may decide to focus on 2D instead of 3D because you like that workflow better.
    2. Figure out your game - A loose concept is great, but I find that if you aim at nothing, that's what you hit. Having a focused direction will save you time and help point you in the right direction when you find yourself lost about what to do next
    3. Simplify it - You're obviously new to game development, and one of the biggest pitfalls new people (and even those who have been around for a while) run into is biting off more than they can chew. While it'd be great to make The Next Big Thing, you need to be sure you can make Some Thing first. Slash your project scope down to a minimum viable product and focus on building that. Repeat this process every now and then when you notice you've started adding cool ideas to the project along the way.
    4. Bust your ass - Game development is not easy. You're going to have to work a ton, and even more so when you're learning everything along the way. Dedicate as much free time as you can to learning and working on your project.
    5. Kill your babies - You may discover as you go that things are a mess. In the last few months, you've learned a ton and realize how poorly structured or written your existing base is. That's okay! It's all part of the learning process, and in fact, demonstrates your skill advancement! Don't be afraid to start over, if need be. Just make sure you save your old work and can copy over or reference the parts that were good.
    6. Take a break - I find that I'm prone to burning out after extended periods of crunching. It's okay to take a weekend off here and there to get some of your sanity / health back. I really hope this twitch in my eye goes away soon, and I'll probably get it checked with a doctor after I get this demo released...
    7. Forget the business stuff - You have to have a game before you can sell it, so don't waste your time at this stage even thinking about crap like a company name, how to integrate ads and IAP, and what will be in your Kickstarter video. The game needs your attention first. For that matter...
    8. Forget the name! - Your game doesn't need a name yet! You may find, as you work on it, that the genre turns out to be something else entirely than when you started. You may replace the Dragon with a Space Wizard. You may decide the Princess is actually the star of the game after all! And she's a platypus. The game will have named itself by the time you finish it, so don't sweat it yet.
Best of luck with your project! If you need clarification or assistance as you're going through the tutorials, ask us on the Getting Started board. Lots of helpful people willing to lend a hand, there.

For now, don't worry about the business. Focus on the prototype. Don't even worry about the name for your game. Just give it a very generic name to begin with. Once you get further into your project, you will come up with a better name. For now, just call your game "LucastaMiller's Two Dragons and a Girl Game". Create a work in progress thread in the Unity WIP forum section, and post pictures and videos in that thread.

The suggestions aren't technical or unique because the information you've provided us isn't, either.

Here's a list of names I just made up in the spot that may or may not actually be appropriate for your game:
    • Scrael's Revenge
    • The Legend of Thelma
    • Smoke N' Embers
    • Princess Hoarde and the Dastardly Dragons
    • Th'cart Befoer Th'hoarse
    Is that helpful?

Why do you want technical in a game name? Names are about marketing, not technology.

    Some suggestions
    • Roary Dragon
    • Dragoncraft
    • Dragon Wars: The dawn of dragons
Each name implies something very different about the game. So design your game first, then name it.

'The princess that was technically a dragon' - a legal drama exploring the legitimacy of a ruling family when gene technology uncovers what really happened in the past when a girl was captured by a dragon & then 'rescued' by a prince that she later married. It turns out that she suffered Stockholm syndrome, the dragon killed the knight prince that went to rescue her & then took over his life by using a dragons' little known shape shifting ability.

'The princess & the technical dragon' - a steampunk adventure about a girl & her steam powered mechanical dragon

Step #1 - Be careful who you take advice from.

A lot of people here have no real world experience. I recommend reading published books and blogs. Forums are great for opinions. Opinions.

This is good advice. Game Design Zen is a pretty good place to get down the basics.

Hello Lucasta, the concept and opinion behind your game is very good and attractive. But frankly speaking i don't like the names and suggestions provided to you As that's are not innovative names and also the name ideas and your game concept doesn't relate with each other and also i have already heard that type of names somewhere else. So , according to me you should go for some great and attractive names. Don't go for famous one's, go for unique one's. So, here are some name suggestions from my side but i don't know the proper meaning of that names, if you want meanings , you should have to google it out. hope you "ll like the suggestions. Have a nice day!!

    "Dragon's aaric on girl"
    "Aga game"
    "Anastasio girl"
    "Borya girl, evil dragon"
    "Fukanya dragons"
    "Story of Enapay girl"
    "A'la game with brave characters"

All the best!! hope you "ll find best one for your game.

Well, there are those "Special people" out there that think it is a good idea to build a startup company, come up with a clever marketing strategy and THEN think about what exactly the company should build and sell.

Seen some people hellbent on starting up their own company do that. I was a little bit surprised they really were serious about it, to put it mildly.

No matter how wrong the "build it and they come" strategy is in many industries, so is the "create a company and start selling stuff before you even have an idea what you could sell" strategy.
Sadly its what many bigger, non-startup companys also adopted, selling you stuff they don't even know how they work yet. The marketing guys will promise you the world, and then expect the engineers to figure out how to built that fantasy they just sold.

We've seen milder examples, where the marketing did sell something existing, but blew it up beyond reality so the product clearly could have never lived up to the hype... anyone still remember euclidion and their outrageous claims some years ago? Yes, the product seems to be real, what their marketing tried to sell was not. Vaporware, at least as a product for the gaming industry.

Probably not a good idea to start up a business, unless your actual business is tricking investors in investing big time in your company, ripping off pre-order customers and then running with the money ;)
