I am modelling a terrain in World Machine, exported it to Unity and tried to apply textures using ats colormap, which is free, but i could't get the splat map working properly so i dropped. Could anyone suggest a free software or a free unity package that lets me easily texture the terrain? Sorry if this question was asked.

You could always just use world machine to generate the terrain and then manually texture paint it within unity with the textures you want.

You do understand that doing so i'll never do what i planned in the first place? Furthermore, if the map is big, it's going to be a lot of unnecessary and low quality painting.

You asked for a free method to texture your terrain within unity.
I provided a reasonable way of doing so; which is free.

Is it the best way of doing so? No. Is it the fastest way? No. But quick fix solutions cost money, and if you're not willing to pay you have to find other work arounds to get the job done.

Why would texture painting the terrain within unity be low quality? Just blend textures correctly and make use of maps. The low quality would only come from what you put into your work; it's not unity.

Have you tired generating the terrain in world machine then bringing it into a 3D modeling program and texture paint it that way?
