Well, I'm new on Unity 3d (pretty new, must say it). Everything started when i started to love games (like 20 years ago... and i have 23 so... :p) and now, i want to make a game.

This is my first post so i will speak about me before explain my doubt and idea.

I'm spanish, and my name is Ramón. This last year, i was checking some languages, like c, LUA, javascript... and i have some doubts about which one pick for try to make my game.

Yes, is hard. Yes, there is a lot of tutorials. Yes, i know... but would be great if someone can guide me a bit throught this world know as "Unity 3d".

    I'm planning to make a RPG-Tactic game.
[ /irony on wow, so unique and original /irony off ] <== Yes, i know... but the point is... there is no games like Fire emblem or Final fantasy tactics on PC. At least not enought to satisfy me, and not as good as them.
So i wake up one day, with the idea of trying to make one.

What could be the best language for try to make this game?

Welcome! Yeah, on PC the only good fantasy tactics game I can think of is Banner Saga. Valkyria Chronicles is a recent PC entry, but its not exactly the same. I could enjoy more of these games as well!

Yes, c# (just very shallow), a bit more of javascript and LUA.

Thanks! I played both games, they are good enought, but there are no more "important" games on pc. Thats the problem.

I wonder how often the driving force behind someone's motivation is "I wish someone would just make an updated version of X". I know personally, I wish for an updated Mechwarrior (not some online multiplayer bullcrap). I often wish for many games of my youth to be updated and brought back to life. Sometimes they are with tragic results, other times they're brought back with splendid results (thanks Kings Quest!)

Right. As long as there are games that are nostalgic to people that haven't been revived by a good remake/reimagining, there will always be an opportunity to develop that game. Make it yours!

Personally, I was never into X-COM: UFO Defense, but one of my favorite games is now XCOM Enemy Unknown. And I think the world can use more games like this =). Another opportunity along the same lines is Jagged Alliance. The most recent remakes are mediocre at best.

Forget choosing a language. Choose an engine. Engines will dictate the language you use.

    Unity uses C#
    Unreal uses C++
    ...

Choose the engine and platform that suit. Then learn whatever language fits. Languages are a tool. When you get down to it they are pretty much the same. Choose one that is convenient.

??? I'm curious why this would surprise anyone. There is a whole wide world of developers out there.

Part of my motivation is... do something cool with my life. And that could be something very cool :D

I played every xcom, and waiting for Xcom 2 (will be strange since don't follow the temporal guide of the expansion Xcom: Enemy Within). About jagged alliance, the last one was... baaaaad. And i paid for it on kickstarter. Meh.

I think i would be able to make something cool. Probably not a game of 11/10... but im sure i can make a game good enought.

Then, ill use C# for unity. Thanks for the advice buddy! ^^

Welcome to Unity! I'm a spanish developer. I prefer C# and the best advise I can give is calm, tutorials and Unity documentation.
