I am using the latest 2018.3.8f1 and the latest HDRP version, and I do know that it takes forever to compile all the shader variants. However, even when I have waited for 2 hours, so it can compile them, the building ends up at a crash (without the error message).

My machine is 16GB and while building it can take up all of it (which is weird), so let's say it crashes due to insufficient amount of memory. I tried to build on another machine with Windows 7 and 32 GB of memory. I left it over night and came back to a crash error "Out of memory", which is ridicilous.

Yeah, ofc, which would also require to submit a reproducable case, even though I am only trying to compile HDRP/Lit shader without any custom stuff. And then it would take another 3 months for your bug report team to tell me that they could not repro the crash, even though the crash dump file is submitted.

I have never had any positive experience with the bug report system, so the only thing i can do is yelling at the forum that the most stable unity version just wouldn't build.

So far almost two hours into "Compile and show code" it looks like this

Coming back at you when I have the crash dump file

How many shader compiler processes do you see in this list?
And what CPU do you have?

It looks like the shader compiler crashed or something, there should definitely be more than one Unity Shader Compiler process.

So 3 hours later I am getting this error on one of my machines, with no crash dump available though.

I 'll be looking more into this, and hope to gather more information to submit a bug report

Well, as a heads up, eventually i made an empty project on a clean clean windows 10 pc (which is a 3rd in a row). Set the project up for HDRP (core, shadergraph, vfx). This particular machine has only 8Gb ram, and 2h later i got the same crash error as one on the 32GB. Submitted a bug report here

I cross my fingers for it to be fixed soon :)

Getting the same problem, did you come up with the solution, 2 years later?
