    Hi,

every day, several people come and are like "wHy iS mY sCrEeN bLaCK???!!!". And honestly, no matter how hard I try there are still these people... So, is there any way how to work around this? Like, is there at least a way how to display them some message?

(If you are wondering why is somebody with 15 years old GPU/without GPU downloading a new game with volumetrics... Well I wonder as well...)

    Thanks, Petr

Supporting these people is what holds back a lot of tech and graphics. And when you ask them to upgrade, they tell you a 10 decade GPU isn't that old yet, it runs many games in 30 or 60 FPS

Look at URP, supporting these people -- and we have really bad SSAO, worse performance than HDRP's SSAO by almost 2x-3x and a much worse quality.

But yeah, I'd be interested in a way to show a message as well.

Also you should probably stick to built-in or URP if you want wider platform support. Even URP will have compute soon though.

The only guarantees for no compute will be to use Built-In or a custom render pipeline you make. A computer without compute in 2022 will have to be a very old phone/laptop or something that nobody should pick HDRP for.

In short, they would have to be running DX11 compatible hardware for HDRP, so make sure it's clear on your sales page to prevent unwanted purchases and refunds.

    Thanks,

yes, totally agree. But you can state it 100 times and some people will still come and are surprised.

Would it be possible, that Unity would do some basic checks when launching and warn users? (Maybe it is a bad/stupid idea with some pitfall)

Unity already gives you all the tools and checks to do so. You should also restrict it in the store (os/dx/etc).

HDRP is for new consoles and computers. If you want volumetrics without compute, you can easily get that with built-in.
