HDRP pathtracing sample count still capped at 16K samples

    It could have worked if they provided a denoiser alongside it

    Hey, it's totally expected that our path tracer algorithm have a hard time to converge in certain scenario (what you show is one of them).

    However, we've been working towards that and two options have been added in recent versions.
    1. We now have sky importance sampling (2022.2) which helps a lot with skies that have a lot of contrast (like a sun embed in the cubemap for example)
    2. Also, a denoiser has been recently added (2022.2) specifically to fix those complicated scenario (high emissive, subsurface scattering.. etc). The denoiser package still needs to land but it won't be long now.

    Also, if 16k doesn't do the trick, 100k won't help a lot. You'll get just a little bit more dots :)

    @chap-unity the pre-release denoiser package linked in the PR requires permission... is it Unity-only at this point?

    Yes, but it's in review to make it to the package manager, so that clicking on the fix button on the override install it right away (same as DLSS one for example). Should be done "Soon" :)
