"OpenCL Error. Falling back to CPU lightmapper. Error callback from context: Not enough GPU memory to fit lightmap in memory, even in tiled baking mode. Available GPU memory: 5.34 GB"

This happens even on a very simple scene with a single lightmappable object and one directional light. I guess I need a 16GB GPU next time I upgrade but...

Yes I manage to do so on a 6800XT. However it is unstable and does not always work. I do have a dual GPU setup where my 5700XT renders the Unity scene and my 6800XT only does the baking.

So you actually do need 16GB of VRAM? Holy...

What unity version are you using? in 2021.2 there's a Tiled GPU lightmapper to avoid running out of VRAM while baking using GPU.

Frankly I feel like the tiling didn't actually change anything. I could bake the same things before and after they implemented tiling.

Also didn't see much difference when I went from 8GB to 16GB, so...

If you want to bake 4096 with 16GB VRAM somewhat reliably, you need to create new lightmap parameters and set Anti-aliasing samples to 1 (from the default 8). Then it's possible to bake at 4096.

Interesting, it seems the current tiled gpu lightmapper are unstable.

The problem is related to lightmap anti-aliasing and the lack of tiled denoising. We are still investigating this. Expect more details in the near future. We will share them here, in the GI sub-forum.
