So the game I would most like to make is a TCG. I've created the game design, all the rules, mechanics, and am currently refining/building the card list and the 4 starter decks.

Ideally I would fully flesh out the cards on paper and play test them repeatedly against people in real life, but this game will be using mechanics which cannot be done in a physical version, in other words I'll be making full use of the digital medium. I've studied game design for a few years now, so I'm pretty confident I can make a fairly balanced, innovative, and enjoyable game.

Can anybody recommend any good tutorials or places to start? I've got a little bit of experience in Unity, but really I'm still learning the ropes. Unfortunately most of the tutorials I've seen are for platforming and shooters, TCGs just don't get much love apparently.

Hex was made in Unity. As far as making it, I would assume is just like any other game out there with a bit of google search on how to simulate decks, and shuffling etc.

Oh cool. I've played a bit of Hex. It's a decent game, but their monetization model kind of sucks atm. I don't think people should have to work THAT hard during a beta to get cards. I consider the entire point of a beta to be testing the game. Hard to do when most players only have a fraction of the cards.
    Anyway, thanks.

Yes. Hearthstone by Blizzard was made in Unity.

Any tutorial is a good place to start. Concepts you learn for developing a game in Unity are going to be largely the same regardless of the game the tutorial has you build. Complex games won't generally have tutorials though because tutorials are aimed at beginners. Platformers and shooters are fairly simple games while a CCG is fairly complex.

There is a tutorial series covering the creation of a card game on YouTube. It's Blackjack though not a CCG.

If you think Hex monetization model sucks, you must have never played MTG. And if you never played MTG you have no real game design skills to make a TCG/CCG. Sorry just saying...Hex is about 1/2 the price of MTG. They sell packs, charge for tournament entry fee and thats about it, not sure how MTG or HEX went wrong there.
EDIT: Hex was also a community built game, with 2mil funding...kind of hard to argue their success.

Throwing out quite a lot of assumptions aren't you Azmar?
Depends on which MTG game you're referring to. For Magic Duels I can easily earn a pack a day. For Hex you work much harder for much less of a reward if you don't want to pay. There are certainly problems with MTG's design. Hearthstone corrects a few of them. But Hex, it doesn't really fix too much, the "Threshold" mechanic does a little bit, but nowhere near as much as Hearthstone for correcting the mana curve. The commanders are interesting, as well as the equipment, but not interesting enough to keep me playing it, and of course the equipment is for PvE only. I played the beta and as far as I'm concerned I gave it a fair shot. I do think that Hex has a lot of potential, but they're not doing a good job realizing it. Also I hear nothing but good things about their customer support. You're of course free to enjoy what you like, but there's no call to question my design skills simply because I don't care for Hex. I'm not saying it's a bad game, just that it isn't for me.
    Cheers.

Shelter was made with Unity. They recently updated it after Unity 5 was released.

While it is not a bad game, it does need more work. The game quickly becomes unbalanced in favor of the undead.

    Hi @Gerald Tyler,

I'm looking at putting together a CCG kit for the asset store. Its a long road between here and a complete project but I'm hoping some early access stuff will be out in the next 6-8 weeks. Send me a PM if you want to discuss.

    Regards,
    John A
