Hey Everyone, I am working on an art tutorial series.

    UPDATE: Course finished!

I am about half way done, so far I just laid in the rough details and threw in a character controller.

I still have to do the final detailing and color/scene composition.

What do you guys think so far? It doesn't look its best at this moment, but thought I would share so that you can compare with the upcoming shots.

im all for this, i might do some 3d games in the future. While i do know to paint, im not too familiar with applying to models the best way, and i absolutely HATE UV maps...

Glad to hear ! :) UV mapping is definitely a pain at the start, its very technical compared to the actual painting. I try to explain all the ins and outs of optimized UV mapping with many tricks to make the file size smaller and fewer draw calls, such as; stacking UVs, sharing maps between models, etc.

One more Shot (I just finished the fine details for the wall)

the only thing id fix here is the scale of the blocks, compared to the human they are boulders even tho their design looks like bricks? Id sharpen them up alittle and scale them down to add more detail. The texture itself looks great when I see it on the UV Map Texture.

    Ill be watching!:)

Thanks for the feedback. I was going for large stones or boulders as I should have called them. What would you suggest that would make the texture look more boulder-like?

Well, boulders are generally not handcrafted by humans like bricks would be, they would be oddshaped and simply stacked. The ones u have for the wall are very large bricks that would be hellish work to carve and place:p But this is a very straight wall so i would suggest going for the brickwall look, just scale the texture down to make them fit a human better?

it didnt wanna show bricks for some reason as a image, had to use the link. just some examples.

    Those are really nice!

I dunno, when I imaged the arena, I kept thinking of StoneHenge like shapes, really big hand crafted slabs/stones. I guess the viewers have the option to pick what they imagine, while still following the same technique to achieve it. I really like your hand painted style! very clean.

oh those ar enot mine, just examples i found real quick. Oh ok its an ARENA! well that changes things alittle. I'll let u progress alittle further before i butt in again:p it looks nice, keep it up:D

    EDIT:
btw this is something i did for a game of ours, it kinda resembles an arena like stage, only a tad darker ofcourse!

Why do you think its not texturing? I guess its more hand-painting?

The course covers creating an arena and some vegetation with blender and texturing it with hand paint techniques in Photoshop or Gimp.
