What's the key shortcut for brush size?

Is there any way to have darker roots?

Sorry for the late answer. There is currently no option to disable shadows for the hair in HairStudio. I will consider adding one for the next update. Thanks.

To change the brush size and strength, hold control key and move the mouse up and down or left and right.

You can't change the color of the hair along the strands. It is a feature I would like to add, though, so it may become possible in the future.

Your asset looks awesome. We work on a barber simulation and we think to switch hair simulation to yours.
Is it possible to trim, cut and do different changes during the runtime? ( with some workarounds)
    Thanks.

Nope, HairStudio only features grooming in the editor. You could implement it on your own of course, but it won't be a easy task.

Indeed, I've just heard from the developer about it and it should land in the 2021.2. Can't wait.

You can probably already use it. I'm on 2021.2 beta 11 and it's available in the dropdown. I'm not sure if it's not a placeholder, but it's there.

You need to place a mesh collider that matches your head mesh, for the root tool to work. The root tool casts rays in the scene to find the surface where is should place the root, this is what this collider is used for.

    What is the problem exactly?

The material HairStudioDemo_GIBlue does not use the HairStudio shader. Material is discarded.
    UnityEngine.Debug:LogError (object,UnityEngine.Object)

As the error message states, you material needs to use the HairStudio shader. You can copy a material included in the examples and modify it is you prefer.

I believe you would benefit a lot reading the doc and taking a look at the showcase scene

What render pipeline are you using? You need to use the built-in shader or hdrp one depending on what you are using in your project

    Dear Developer of Hair Studio,

Hope you are doing well, I want to purchase your hair studio asset, but I want to make sure that I can cut the hair from the middle part or anywhere using oculus quest, i am just asking you if it is possible in your solution.

What I want to do is just like the link below, actually i am working on the barber shop application in VR so I want the exact work in the given video.
    https://www.youtube.com/shorts/9ygNj9m0oq8

Please check the video and reply to me as soon as possible.

    Kind regards

HairStudio is not designed to modify the haircut during playmode. Only in the editor.

That said, the video you linked by Daniel Beauchamp (PushMatrix) was made with HairStudio with some modifications in the code https://twitter.com/pushmatrix/status/1277958058900160512.

So it's possible, but not as-is.

Is it possible to make like dreads or something like that with it? And what about like a scalp layer to avoid seeing clear skin and some areas where you can see through like where the hair line may be

HairStudio does not support textures on the hair material so you can't make textured dreads. You can't make braids either because all hair strands in it will move individually, not as a whole.

As for the scalp, you can easily paint your model textures to avoid seeing the skin to much. You can also increase the density of hair at the cost of perfs

Got it! I assume not but would there ever been an update to support different hair styles? I always thought like a hair painter that painted on ready made prefabs of hairs like dreads or curly hair or other things and be able to brush those would be cool and way easier.

I wish this tool was up to date, the unity.demoteam.hair is so frustrating, unreliable, constantly crashing, and PAINFUL to use and not to mention fully abandoned at this point. Please please pick this tool back up, it's the only one actually worth using.

Hello HairStudio no longer is in development at the moment because of Unity Hair. I think Unity Hair is a quite valid package with better performances and decent rendering in all the pipelines, and while it does not have a built-in authoring tool like HairStudio, it supports Alembic so you can author the hair asset with the tool you like, which is a way better solution overall.

I admit that I now use Unity Hair in my own game and removed HairStudio completely. I will consider making HairStudio an open-source abandonware for science someday.
