GUI Texture invisible

Hey there,

I am pretty new to Unity and on my way of creating a new mobile game application, but my attempts to create a touch control button failed. I tried to create a new GUI Texture but its not visible, nor can I add any textures to it. When clicking on it in the Hierarchy it just shows the axis' .
Although when I start the game and create a new GUI Texture, it shows up and accepts new textures.
What am I doing wrong, is it a bug? I really need help!
