Is it a Empty Game Object with a GUIText component attached?
If yes, the X and Y must not be less than 0 and greater than 1. Why, you may ask.
Well, because in this case the position will be treated as in a 2D space (X and Y only) and in viewport mode.
    Think of viewport as %:
    0, 0 is lower left
0.5, 0.5 is the middle of the screen
    1, 1 is upper right

    Try setting the position to 0.5 x, 0.5 y.

More (and precise) information here: http://unity3d.com/learn/tutorials/projects/space-shooter/counting-points

Now if you have a Canvas object with a UI Text object, it is a different story.
Click on the Canvas object, and on the Canvas component, set the Render Mode (by default it is Screen Space - Overlay) to Screen Space - Camera. Set the Render Camera to your Main Camera, and you are good to go.

    Good luck.

thanks for the reply man ... apparently i had to create a new game object add the GUI Text component to it .. i thought i would find it ready in the create menu like in the tutorial... XD

do you know how can i save it so i can use it any time later without the need to redo these steps ??

    thanks

You can save a prefab with a GUI Text so that you have it handy if you need it. Just drag the Gamobject with the GUI Text component into the project view to save it as a prefab.

By the way... unity did remove it form the menu because its kind of old and you are probably better of using the new GUI.
