Update 1.1 has been submitted to the assetstore!
with 48 additional tiles, counting 74 now instead of 26.
Until the new version is approved, you can already get the old one and receive all future updates for it.

Hey, i saw on reddit that people asked how to use them with cubes. If you have an isometric camera in your game you can use this sprite pack with 3d objects as well. You just need a basic 3d tile with projected uv coords from an isometric camera.

I directly downloaded the zip and tried to play with it. There was no UV though.
So I dived into blender quickly and did an iso-projected uv of a 1:1 cube.
    Worked wonderful!

I will prepare a conversion pack for this soon and will also prepare a 2,5D pack with normalmaps, heightmaps in HD soon!

    Here are the results:

Again, thanks so much for the input moure. I thought about doing it like that but didn't take the time to actually make it, thanks for giving the impulse there. So many asked for a 3d version and I always thought it would be better to make extra textures for it, but this method works great if you use it in isometric view, because you won't notice the stretched pixels.

Robert, had the same issue, I re-did the tile though.

You may need to rotate it until you see it, because it has no backfaces.
I guess it's good as long as you use it for 2.5D games.

I should prepare a 3D version for it, but this will require me re-painting the textures which will take quite some time.

As for the normalmaps, since you have the package you can use SpriteDLight(which I used), Crazybump or nDo, all of them should work, may give different results though. I will probably make a pack with the normals, specular and height in higher res...gotta test out some more! :D

cool, i think it works, could you upload a pic from the unity editor - especially the material settings?
i am not sure if the tilling to 0,5 is correct - but seams so :) .. or not :D

What do you mean with tiling to 0,5? The material I used was the standard shader with 1:1 tiling.
The mesh import options, I set the scale to 1.05 to get rid of some shadow errors due to the lack of a backface.
The rest is pretty much up to you, should work pretty much out of the box.
    Could you send a screenshot?

Can you screenshot the import options? It is either that or the file gets screwed up due to compression...
    Screen2.jpg

EDIT: I tried different solutions, but I am not getting the same result you are getting.
    Screen3.jpg

Did you try to open it in another project? Dunno what else might be the cause.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

I actually used a 3dsmax file myself and not the obj one. Probably forgot to export the obj one with uvs on ;) Glad you did it yourself! The normal maps will be fun to try out.
Here is a quick test i did with a simple heightmap/splatmap to tile map generator

I plan on integrating your transition tiles next :)

import materials was on in my editor. and scale factor was 1
everything else was the same, changed it to your settings but still looks like the screenshot above. who knows why :D

when i set the tiling to 0,59 and 0,65 and some offset it kinda looks good

will try a new project now/redownload

I had the heightmap created a long time ago in worldmachine, the above image is from unity, just changed the black background in photoshop. The original use of the heighmap

Btw instead of just zipping the obj you can try exporting your sample scene into a .unitypackage and post that instead! (Without the textures of course :D)

    found the problem.
texture type: texture, not sprite for the png(thats how it is when you get the pack from the store ;) )

    I made a small scene, a material

It should look like this and work with all the other tiles, too... Screen4.jpg

EDIT: Yes, I agree. Since the pack was intended as a 2D pack, all the import options are set to sprite, therefore you have to change them to textured to make it work properly, glad we could solve that.

And Moure: that map looks wonderful! <3

Just tested the unitypackage, works great ;) I think it also tiles better than my prev attempt (probably messed up the projection angle or something)

    I'm confused.
Where is the unitypackage you are talking about? Or the mentioned obj file with projected uvs?
I don't see any download links.

Dear Remiel, we removed the files and will prepare a proper package for it that will be available in the assetstore soon.
Since this thread is intended for the 2D Iso Pack, we decided to remove the obj and package.

For a proper 2.5D pack, the tiles need to be in higher resolution and need normalmaps as well as heightmaps.
For that we will release a proper HD 2,5D pack.

We will release a SD 2D to 2,5D conversion soon though, including a small tutorial, a fixed mesh, more meshes and a demo scene.

Got these in the sale, they look amazing :D Great work! Excited for the 2.5D set, I've already made my own version of it, and experimented with normal map conversion and it looks good but I might as well wait and get it from the pros. Can't come soon enough!

    Keep it up, amazing stuff

The the tiles in your 2D Hexagonal Tile Starter Pack are in the FlatHexGrid orientation. Can they be used/arranged in the PointyHexGrid orientation?

Tokyo Dan: Sadly they can't. We would have to re-draw them and right now we focus on other priorities, so it might take a while. We will note it down though.

Hey _Simmo, thanks for the interest! :D

We are currently working on a new package containing Forest Tiles, Foliage and some Props. It was a bit of a back and forth with the style and rendering to bring something consistent and with great quality to you. But we are confident that we are on the right track with it now! Our minds are filled with a lot of great ideas for additional packages, so more will come soon.

Additionally, we are currently planning on revisiting our website and extending it with a forum and an online store that could include for example early access for the world builder(more and that soon) and more, so you won't have to wait weeks to get an update. We will post every pack to the AssetStore, however, just for the ones who don't like to wait for new packs or Updates, we offer our webstore.
The Forum will be for you to share your creations, ask questions, give feedback, stay up to date on current plans and progresses and most importantly more responsive Support!

Hope you are all well and healthy!

Really, really nice stuff. I love the style. Any recommendations about character sprites to go with this? Also, do you have any plans to add environmental objects such as odd rocks, tall grass, trees, etc?

@Golden Skull Studios Wow. This is awesome. We'll be watching for what your plans are for objects and doodads. Do you have a couple done that you could show off? This is really high on our list for assets we could use to build maps for our current game...

Dear Durbs1, so far we don't really know good character sprite resources that match our style, but we have some plans to bring some characters to life! :D

Ariegos, yes, expect the 2,5D hex in January!

Gigaloth thanks so much! Much of our progress is pretty rough, much like a Bob Ross painting that looks derp until the final strokes were made and the full beauty unfolds. We are pretty far on our foliage pack however and plan to submit it soon.

    Small Update:
-A Foliage Pack on it's way, still in development but almost complete!

-More Packs will be announced soon! <3

    Hey there,

we have some tiny Updates about the Foliage Pack!

    Small TILED Tutorial
First off, for all those using TILED to create Maps to use them in Unity, we have a small Tutorial about how to use our Iso Tiles in TILED: http://www.goldenskullstudios.com/tiled-v0142/

    Foliage Pack Submission
Secondly, the Foliage Pack was submitted to the Asset Store and is now awaiting approval.
Here are some sneakpeeks at the package's contents.

We really are excited and hope you will like it and build wonderful things with it?

    Sprite Painter Announcement
We also want to announce that we intend to release a Sprite Painter tool for you to use in January, so you can easily build environments like the ones from the screenshots comfortably within a few minutes.

    World Builder Early Access
Our WorldBuilder still needs a lot of fixing and tweaking and we cannot put as much time into it as we want to, so our idea was to offer a limited amount of anEarly Access Version for a limited time and you will receive the full version upon release and be credited for your support and help. Would any of you be interested in such an Early Access Version?

Looking forward to hearing your Input.

Happy New Year and all the best for 2016,

    Your GSS Team

With the release of our latest Package to the Asset Store, we updated our Information in the first post a bit.

The new packages features 102 foliage sprites in 256px per Unit resolution.
It works well with our Tiles and works in isometric view as well as top down views(RPG-Maker-ish).
We really hope this package will be a good addition to your collection and will help you create some beautiful environments. We are always very grateful for your feedback as well as reviews in the Asset Store.

Here are some further Screenshots of the package:

Due to alot of requests, we decided to revisit our 2,5D conversion package and add support of our Hexagonal tiles as well as add full 3D tiles(with backfaces) to the pack to finally support lightmapping.

There are some things that need fixing that aren't visible at this scale but we think we will submit the update next week.

    Cheers,

Since we had no demonstration video for the 2D Isometric Foliage Pack yet, we fixed the issue by creating one.
Here you go, we hope you will find it informative. :D

    Sooo,

    we have some great news.
We have freed some time in our schedules to work on GSS and we dived in fully.

    Voting feature
We started commissioning a voting feature for the website, which will hopefull be available soon.
With this voting feature, we want to give every visitor/fan and follower the opportunity to vote on ideas for packages and submit requests and ideas for updates and packages. We really want to bring you the packs YOU want and need for your games. Therefore, do not hesitate to bombard us with your requests. ;)

    Chat
We also opened up a discord server for chat and direct support: https://discord.gg/SvShnpG

    New Art Packs
One of the more recently requested packages was a village pack. So we have started to work on a village pack.
We plan to create at least 150 tiles to build a variety of buildings for your packages.
The package will cost around 15-20$. It will come with a bunch of tiles for the environment, building walls, roof tiles, props like windows, doors, signs, possibly fences and more.

Here is an early concept art of the house evaluating a first draft as well as roofing angles.

We can't wait to hear your feedback.

    World Builder
There has been a lot of back and forth with our world builder in the past. From hiring a dev that did not deliver to several drafts that we scrapped since they did not meet our expectations, this package has a quite exciting history.
We figured out that it might never be as good as we would like it to be, but it makes no sense to not let you all take part in it, especially since you might have a different perspective on it that we have.
We have therefore moved our own store to itch.io to be able to deliver "in-development" software with good community integration etc.
We therefore will launch the first version of the worldbuilder in our own store as pre-release as soon as we have finished and released some more art packages. We plan to bring the worldbuilder to the Unity Asset Store as soon as the package runs stable enough to pass the review process.
We want to work closely with the community and integrate you in most of our decisions regarding new packages.
We always value feedback and take it very seriously and try to do our best to make everyone happy.

    Itch.io store
    https://goldenskullstudios.itch.io/

We started offering our packages on the itch.io store aswell, not to move away from the asset store in any way.
But since we love working with the community, we want to have a platform where we can quickly iterate our products without the review times. We will still release our packages to the Asset Store after certain milestones for each package have been met as well as updates.

2D Isometric Tile Pack: Starter HD Edition (Outdated, see next Post)
Since we love crisp graphics, we decided to upscale our 2D Isometric Starter Pack to 1024px per tile.
The process will take some time, but it is worth it since you can now zoom in almost fully on full HD without any pixelation. We plan to offer all of our tiles as HD packs in the future aswell, so you can expect to see SD and HD versions of our existing packages and all upcoming ones aswell.

    Here is a comparison screenshot:

We hope you will find this update interesting and some of those news exciting.
Please leave feedback if you feel like it. ;)

    Cheers,

    Your GSS Team

As we posted earlier, we are working on a new art pack, a 2D isometric exterior pack: village :D
(still in need of a catchy name tho)

Art Packages: 2D Isometric Exterior Pack: Village
We are progressing nicely and hope to be able to submit the package by the end of the week.
In the meantime, here are two screenshots of test-assemblies we made with the pack:

    Other news
    Voting feature

The voting feature for our website for what we shall work on next is still WIP but we made some good progress there aswell. We should have it ready until next week if everything works as planned.

    World Builder
We decided to collaborate with developers on the World Builder due to the lack of time since we focus on new art packages. We have a test-task running until the 10th of March, so more news after that.
We are looking for developers with experience in voxel-based world building, editor extensions, sceneview scripting.
If you have no experience in that field yet but are confident that you can pick it up quickly, that test-task might be just the right thing for you. (Since we cannot afford to pay a developer to work on this, we offer 50/50 revenue split.)
If you are a developer and interested in collaborating with us on the World Builder, send a mail to goldenskullstudios@gmail.com

That is it from our side so far, thanks for reading and all your support, we hope you will like the new package and see you next update. :)
