Gear VR Crash 9/10 Times After Splash Screen (5.3.2p2)

    Hey everyone, have been getting a frequent crash on my Gear VR app, using Unity 5.3.2p2 right on the splash screen or not even getting to showing it. Happens almost every time. Using Oculus Runtime 0.8.0, latest utilities and native VR set.

    I should note I am always getting an "[VRDevice] Initialization of device oculus failed" error whenever loading up any Gear VR project into Unity as well.

    Please help, this is holding my development back severely now.

    Ok, it looks like turning off Multi-threaded Rendering seems to allow it to run every time, very odd. Obviously not desired as now the frame rate is pretty low, but at least I can get it to run now.

    Thanks @scottb9239 for figuring that out and posting! We had the same issue, but limited to the Galaxy S7; builds with Multi-Threaded Rendering checked work fine on the S6. Perhaps you have a minimal case that could be submitted as a bug?

    thanks for the find! multithreaded rendering was my issue too.

    The latest version 5.3.4 seems to be a lot more stable now, even with Multi-threaded rendering on, only crashes about 1/10 now, a lot better. I noticed a few crash fixes in the release notes since 5.3.2p2.
