I was having the same problem, or close to it anyway-- I'd wait for things to load (black screen), and all I'd get was kicked out to the default GearVR storefront.
The mistake I had made was having Antialiasing accidentally turned on in the Quality settings. TURN IT OFF
I wish Unity would spit out more useful (or any) errors when trying to build to Android with unsupported settings turned on.
I'm still having this issue. Its crazy that its been this long and still no fix. currently using the latest unity build.
also my anti aliasing was not turned on,
- Disabled "Auto Graphics API" in the Player Settings
- Removed "OpenGLES3" from Graphics APIs list, leaving only OpenGLES2 (https://i.gyazo.com/d96180899b771faa6b15eceefc371750.png)
this fixed it for me
