Garbled text -- Not just in editor, anymore. What to do?

So a Windows 10 user is running by the default "DirectX11" launch and, not often, but more often than it should, garbled text appears:

In the EDITOR, if you alt+tab back and forth between Visual Studio and Unity, it will often either hide or garble the text until you toggle something arbitrary in the editor. However, now in the COMPILED build, it's doing it too, every now and then!

How to resolve this? Or workaround?

Since 5.4.3?? I think I reported in 5.5 beta -- sigh ... another example of Unity ignoring major bugs and adding even more features that will trigger even more bugs because new features sell better than stability.

Not fixed in 5.4, 5.5 or 5.6. How many major versions until we'll have a real stable release?

Try using TextMeshPro, that might fix it.

It's free dude. Get it from Asset Store and upgrade. It's far more superior than Text in both visuals and performance. And as far as I can tell this bug doesn't exist in TextMesh Pro.

It's been adopted by Unity themselves. Text is proven to be one of the most buggy and ugly component that exists in current UI system.

You can either wait for Unity Team to implement some sort of upgrader from Text -> TextMesh Pro, or do it yourself.

    Whoa.....

Btw, does this help text clarity, too? I saw you mention visuals. The default text for Unity is unacceptably blurry AF unless you scale t 0.5 and double the font size.

    I'm grabbing it.

Yes, it's crystal sharp, even on smallest and huge font sizes. Just try it out.

I was having issues with garbled text, and found this thread. So tonight I started converting all of my elements to TextMesh Pro. And guess what happens immediately? TextMesh Pro text occasionally appears garbled in the editor! (Unity 2017.1.03f)

UPDATE: Found my problem. When I was copy/pasting TextMeshPro component to new gameobjects, it would automatically add a MeshRenderer, but Material (Element 0) didn't match the pasted Font Asset. As soon as I corrected the material, the garbled text went away.

I'm really liking how crisp these fonts display, btw.
