I have a problem with unity games and the Unity editor that is totally “unexplained”. Here are the symptoms when I ran a Unity game on my laptop last week.

    - When run in full screen, there is absolutely no image. However, the game still works because I can hear the sounds of my actions. The whole screen image is frozen. I cannot click the task bar for example, but I can see the frozen desktop.

    - The game works in windowed mode. Sometimes, it does not work, but most of the time it works.

    - To ensure that problem is not related with my latest build, I tried other builds (older versions) that I ran on my laptops in the last years. The older versions, that had worked well in the past, had the same issue. Therefore, I concluded the problem was not related to my code.

    - I also tried to run the Unity editor. It was already installed and I had run it successfully about a month ago. When I ran it just after my problem occurred, the Unity editor had a window, a menu bar and the whole area under the menu in the window was blank as if nothing had initialized.

    - After reinstalling DirectX, a few graphic drivers thinking that Windows 10 was corrupted, I decided to reinstall the whole thing from scratch. I restored my laptop. Sadly, the problem was still there!

    - I also tried other games and they worked perfectly, except for one old game (which I’m not even sure it was compatible). Therefore, the problem does not seem with related to my laptop or to my game.

    - The problem happened only on my laptop with Windows 10 and a GTX 980M. My desktop computer with Windows 10 works perfectly.

In a nutshell, running my games made with Unity does not work in full screen even if they used to work. A fresh installation of Windows 10 on my laptop did not solve the problem and other games work well. Even when creating a development build, the log does not show error. I have absolutely no error when running the application and that makes it very hard to debug.

Since the only thing that changed meanwhile for all versions of my game is Windows, I presume it might be something related with a Windows Update. Any idea?

I'm actually having the EXACT same issue right now - All of my Unity games are invisible but yet I can still hear the Music/SFX, and it was working JUST yesterday. The only thing I did differently this morning was reload Duet as my I wanted to use my iPad as a 2nd monitor and it wasn't currently working (when it rains it pours I guess). Now my dual monitor setup is working, but none of my Unity programs will.

I've also reloaded/updated my GTX 1070 drivers and played around with some settings, no dice.

Suggestions would be appreciated as I don't want to scorch the earth and reinstall Windows... but that sounds like it doesn't help anyway :-(

Okay: This might be a stretch but....

Did you guys uncheck or click off, any eye icon, in the layers menu panel?
Note: The layers menu, is located on the right hand side, of the workscreen.
If you did, that could explain, why you're not seeing anything.
The eye icon, makes things/objects visible in the scene.

If you have objects on a certain layer, and the eye icon is switched off
you would unfortunately, not be able to see those objects, in your scene.
So press the eye icon box thingy, to turn on the visibility.

    Hopefully, this solves the problem.

Thanks guys. Here's some information to your replies.

Reinstalling Windows didn't solve the problem is my case. Windows 10, unlike previous versions of Windows, reinstalled with the latest version. I had only one Windows Update to do. If you remember when reinstalling Windows XP or 7, we had to reinstall all the Windows Updates like the Service Packs and all the security updates, etc. This time, Windows was installed with the latest version. Therefore, it was impossible for me to reinstall it to the version it was before my problem happened.

The "eye" icon seems something interesting. However, it doesn't apply. To verify this, there are two things:
    1) My game works perfectly on my desktop computer (any version),
    2) Even the older versions, that used to work well on my laptop don't work now. Since, I haven't modified the older versions, the problem cannot come from the code, or any other configuration within my project. This is why I'm so certain that the problem comes from outside the project and the only thing that changed meanwhile is the Windows version. That's strange that my desktop computer and my laptops don't have the same issue. I have Windows 10 on both, but I believe the laptop has a very slightly different version and the graphics might work differently.

Update: Earlier, I mentioned that the game was showing graphics in "windowed" mode. Yesterday, I tried it again and it didn't show anything in "windowed" mode. Therefore, the problem is getting worse. I can still hear the sound and play, but without graphics. I also tried a few other games made with Unity that I downloaded. The problem was still the same, except for one game that worked correctly with graphics. I don't think that all these games had problems. The real problem comes from something else and my hypothesis was Windows 10 or the graphic drivers.

Finally, I got the solution from the Acer customer support. It was not a problem with the graphic card. They mentioned that the issue was with Unity and driver/software conflicts. I still cannot explain the exact problem since I reinstalled the computer as it was when everything worked correctly and the issue was still there. I didn’t fix the problem myself. However, I found this link below, with the solution, left on my desktop. I hope this might help other people.

It might be your graphics API selection on newer versions

Go to Project Settings -> Player -> other settings and uncheck Autographics to see what API you graphics unit might support. Just a play around is not enough. Read about it on the unity blogs before you choose API

Hey, i finally solved this. I also have an acer laptop.

Even if the problems look like related to the NVIDIA, it is about Intel. For acer, i went to acer website and downloaded the VGA (Intel) driver from there. After that, both unity games and editor works perfectly fine!

Sounds like the same issue I got... Unity games are a 50/50 for me if they work... I am trying to think. But I had linked my Itunes to my PC to see the videos on a full screen rather than the little Ipad screen. However wither windowed or full screen the display is invisible but I can hear the movie or anime playing.

And I might as well forget about Unity games All of them from steam seem to have the same issue.... hear the music and the other things. However I cannot operate or play the game itself in any meaningful way. And I lost a lot of my play potential with Sega simulation room where one could play the games and the mods with the games. But now I can only play on the miniplayer.

Also looking up this issue this and one other thread is the same issue I am facing. Yet the answer are update... or find what broke the unity player... which is BS at this point that it seems to be a rare but somewhat common issue.

I can't get unity update unless I came here so here I am and I am going to post this and likely a reask of this exact issue later
