Since 2004 we have been building a home for the world’s most talented dreamers, makers, and doers in a collaborative, ego-free culture that breeds partnership and creative ambition. At our core, we exist to find creative opportunities in every challenge, not just to think, but to make, and ultimately put extraordinary things into the world that inspire people.

    Job Description:

BUCK is seeking an energetic and experienced Gameplay Engineer to expand the capabilities of our growing games department. We’re a small team inside a company with big ideas - we have the freedom of a startup with the resources of a large organization - and the ideal candidate will add to our technical leadership and guide gameplay features from rapid prototype to shipped product. The creative direction at BUCK inspires a wide variety of technical challenges and presents a great opportunity to flex your problem-solving skills.

Let’s be real for just a second: It’s just a person writing this (hi) and making games at BUCK is the most fun I’ve ever had. At BUCK, you’ll be surrounded by brilliant creative talent, and we need your help to write the code that brings it all to life. As a company, BUCK is relatively new to making games, and this role is an opportunity to help establish best practices within a new department while simultaneously benefiting from BUCK’s extensive experience, talent, and creative culture.

    Responsibilities

    • Identify technical opportunities that can leverage BUCK’s amazing visual talent
    • Design and develop gameplay features, from early prototyping to final polished versions
    • Improve project architecture, with a focus on reusable/shared code, refactoring when needed
    • Work closely with leadership to foster a collaborative and inclusive engineering culture

    Requirements

    • You are self-directed and excel at breaking down large challenges into actionable steps
    • You have 3+ years of professional-level experience, including shipped commercial titles
    • You love coding all kinds of games in Unity and know how to make the most of the engine
    • You’re a C# pro and pride yourself on writing clean, robust, code others can follow
    • You have strong 3D math skills and familiarity with physics-based gameplay systems
    • You play well with others via Git or similar version control systems
    • You’re fluent in English

    Pluses

    • You have experience with editor scripting and tool development within Unity
    • You’re capable of profiling Unity projects and know when to optimize
    • You can create custom shaders
    • You’ve shipped one or more console titles
    • You have degree(s) in computer science, math, physics, and related fields
    • You have one or more Unity Certification(s)

    The applicant may work remotely.
