How do I tell if a game name is been use or taken ? I was gone to make a game and was basing the idea of the story line on the name but early today I saw a you tube video showing the same game name but the detail and the story line was deferent so now I wounder if theres a way to see if a name u come up with for a game is taken I thout at first goggleing the name I come up with would work but after seeing the video on you tube I feel I was wrong so do anyone know of a way or a sys that helps you to be able to check for a game name.

If a google search for the name doesn't come up with any results, it's safe to assume that a game with that name does not exist. Was the game you saw in the Youtube video a work-in-progress or in beta / alpha stage? If it was released, it should appear in your search results on Google.

Any game that has a wiki, a website, was uploaded to a mobile marketplace (App store, Google Play, etc), is available on steam, or is just mentioned in a forum will appear in your search results if you type in the name.

Well thoroughly googling is about the only way. There is no definitive list of every game name ever or anything that I am aware of, so you pretty much gotta dig through google results, and youtube as well, and maybe even quick search kongregate, steam, and other big places for games. The best thing to do is really brainstorm some unique ideas, to get something pretty different and descriptive of your game, then google the crap out of it until you either find something or are satisfied its not taken!

    Good luck!

There are two things to search: Google "yourname game", and do a trademark search at uspto.gov
