I'm making a game which is similar to another game on Steam. My game will be more advanced and sophisticated. It's not a clone. I would like to name my game in a way which is somewhat similar to the game I'm inspired by. Is this legal? Do I have to give it a name which is completely different even if my game is very similar?

I recall a thread on here at least a year ago where someone was talking about making a game like another and thinking about names that would evoke the original.

I recall my suggestion was something like "breaking bricks."

To answer your questions, though: sure it's legal as long as it's not trademarked or something. I recommend some care however if you want it to feel clever and not derivative.

While your game may be inspired by another game, using a name similar to theirs will only cement your game as like theirs and not let it become it's own true self.
