It will not be legal unless you get permission from Blizzard, or whoever owns Warcraft.

You would need permission from blizzard. Given this is their franchise, they're most likely trademarked good portion of in-universe names, and the rest would fall under copyright. So, making ANYTHING in that universe while dodging copyright/trademark issues will be nigh impossible.

Why not just do what Warcraft did with Warhammer and change enough for it to be legal? :v

I believe the problem here is that this will not be a warcraft universe.

It is possible to do the same thing Pathfinder did, but this will result in a custom setting, very different from the original.

    These questions puzzle me.

If we said "yeah, it's cool, go for it" then would you actually do that?

I would so no, IP rights for major IP's are worth a lot of money, anyone who wants to use it would have to license it from the dev or publisher that owns the IP. Even then the image of a IP is worth a lot as well, so they would want to ensure that only studios can access it that can push the quality expected from the fanbase.

Been thinking it myself. Perhaps we should just all say "sure go for it" and watch the world burn. The heat will pop my kernels.
