    Hey All!

I hope I'm posting this at the right place and am in dire need of assistance.

I've recently completed creating my game (MMORPG) and am waiting to release close beta for testing. I have the game hosted on a VPS. The issue I am faced with is locking or hiding a particular folder from the players access. The files unfortunately cannot be removed as the data in it is required to run the game and any updates we make in the future to the server will get loaded in that folder when they run an Update.

When a player receives the installer and starts to initiate the process all the files required for the game to run locally will de downloaded as well. I'm hoping someone can advise me as to how I can lock or hide the files but still have it receive updates when any is made in the future.

I have tried hiding the folder using the normal file properties on the server side but it still appears locally. I have also tried 3rd Party app (Folder lock) to lock and hide the file but that seems to only apply to server side as well.

Any help on this is truly appreciated!

If the client needs the files, I'm not sure what can be done to deny access to the files.

I suppose not so much denying access per se, more of wanting to keep it hidden so it doesn't make it easy for players to copy the data in it as it contains crucial files.

How are you sending it to the players? There must be something on your VPS controlling the file transfer, for example if you use FTP then you can hide those files in the settings of your FTP server. You will have to edit the permissions on your file server, not on the OS level.
