I think as title, isn't it?

What game should we (our company, or himself) make is everything that decide success or failure.

It require power to foresee and power to see unmade visions, dreams.

So it means, as indie developer, who need to become prophet.

I want to be that sort of thing too...

I think game design keeps people engaged, but many will not give the mechanics time to reveal themselves if it doesn't look & sound good

Design is important, but it's not everything. Art and coding and audio are all also important.

Plus marketing, user interface, juice, trailer videos, and cashflow. It's all important. And it's hard.

At it's purest, yes, game design is the most important. Mafia, certain sports, and DnD are great examples that don't require anything else but rules (but can benefit with other things). However, you can't realistically base the success of a game, especially a video game, solely on the design. Your game will most likely fail if you neglect all the other important aspects such as those mentioned previously.

Programming - makes game interactive (imagine beautiful forest, but all you can do is walk around and do nothing)
Art - defines atmosphere of the game (imagine an interactive game but with boring graphics)
Sound - highlights player's impact on the game (e.g footsteps, punch impact etc.), which is satisfying
Design - makes the game fun (beautifully crafted game where you have nothing to do)

All of them are equally important for the game.
