Game crashes in Windows 7 and Windows 10

    I am the developer of WarPlan which is on Matrix Games.

    The game runs well for almost everyone. But I do have some users in which the game crashes to windows. Not an in game Unity bug error crash where my code did it. But a Windows crash. I see it sometimes on apps and with games I own.

    Is this just something in Windows in which they are not fully uploaded? A shared DLL screw up?

    I am running on Unity 2017 (latest patch).... If I run a higher version of Unity I have to rewrite too much code and change too much of the graphics. I am using Alpha channeling on 2017 which totally changed to 2018+ and I can't figure out how to do it the way they want.

    Do you have a .dmp file from any of such crashes? Do these crashes happen at startup or after playing the game for a while?

    After playing for a bit. I have had this happen to myself when playing a game and I just start the game back up. Any kind of game. They aren't posting dump files but I will ask.

    What I am really curious is it something I can control? Or is it just their PC. If I ever have a problem like this it is usually a bad graphics card or memory slot. Some kind of hardware damage.

    To be honest, without any additional information it's impossible to know what's causing it. It could be a hardware issue, it could Unity engine bug, it could be some software is injecting itself in to the process, if could be an issue with game code, etc.

    Unfortunately, that's not very helpful. The part that's important is the generated .dmp file - do you have that?

    I believe this was a known issue in the engine that was fixed at some point. I'm trying to figure out which Unity version it's fixed in. I'm also looking for potential workarounds.

    This issue could also result from managed memory corruption.

    I got the latest 2017 version. The 2018+ versions I have to change too much code to adapt it.
    Also I can't figure out what Unity did to the alpha layer because all my graphics are messed up.

    Are you by any chance using Explicitlayout and FieldOffset attributes to overlay reference types and value types?

    I don't think so. I am very novice with Unity IMO. The graphical interface is difficult for me. I code everything as simple as possible. I constructed my own hex mesh and map system so I can make deep layered maps as large as I like without impacting CPU speed. All 2d of course using about 10 layers overlapping with some layers using an alpha mask.

    The game doesn't have fancy graphics. It's a WW2 turn based strategy game.
