Sweet, as one guy said hopefully this sets a precedent where all the little guys who have been screwed over by Zynga sue them (out of business -- hopefully).

Wow!!! I don't play TheVillie but I play The Sim. And I am surprised to see Zynga make such move. Way to go EA.

People threatened to do it before but Zygna probably bought their silence.
About time someone got serious about it because their thievery is just getting ridiculous.

...you can root for Zynga walking funny when all's said and done without having to support EA.

It's like watching a football game between two teams you dislike, you can root for one team to lose without rooting for the other winning. :)

    I completely and utterly agree!
Although I do think Zynga is just out to screw over everyone else, EA isn't much better, it's a matter of "Do as I say, but not as I do".

Just keeps reminding me of the battle between Mojang and Bethesda.

Everybody backed Mojang without knowing the full story...

I fail to see how being able to sue people because they have the same game mechanics as you is a good thing

habbo hotel should sue both of them

Maybe you haven't watched the history of Zynga cloning other people's work without changing anything other than graphics?

And even then the graphics copy the same color scheme, layout, design, etc

Yea nobody can copyright the idea of an mmo, a hotel building game, etc, but when it's simply reskinning the same game it's a problem. Zynga has settled with half a dozen developers it's blatantly ripped off, for millions of dollars, because they make 10x more than they settle for.

In this settlement, EA posted pictures of a model overlayed from both games and they're identical. Hmmm...

Zynga doesn't design games they simply clone whatever is currently popular. I'm sure now they'll just stick to robbing small developers who don't have a litigation team.

Go EA, eventhough I dislike them Zynga can't get away with copying an entire game.

What if we make a game with Unity and Zynga comes along and copies it, are we all alone trying to sue them? Will Unity offer any support?

Well zynga seems to stick to the html5 facebook games where your source and competitors' is out in the open. They have a contract with facebook to meet "certain growth targets for monthly unique users of Covered Zynga Games". Basically they generate revenue for facebook and facebook promotes them to more people than they could do on their own.

There are some videos, didn't bookmark it, but from ex employees giving lectures where they talk about the workflow of the games they developed. Basically re-iterating this:
Only settlement info I can find is Mafia Wars, zynga paid $7-$9 mil to the developer of Mob Wars.

You wont have the money to sue them , and Unity isn't a party to the lawsuit in anyway .

EA's saying that their one of the rare folks who can afford to stand up for their rights . I really hope Zynga loses , and loses hard .
