that is/was never part of this current batch of items in the next update.
It is slated for the next version after the current one that is in production as stated many times during the run of this thread :)

    Hi,
You are correct, but it is not in this current update soon to be released :);)
@AdamGoodrich is focusing on bug fixes picked up since launch and he has added many new features.

Multi-tile support will be the main component for the update after this one is released

    Cheers

Multi tile support will be the focus of the release after the current release been delivered. Eta for multi-tile is most likely to be late February, earlier if possible.

The ones from the mixamo archery pack, check and see if their anims are still free on their site, ya might be able to get it and anything else for free, for a limited time.

Props animations pack on the asset store has some as well.

Have you attached the script to main camera and created a folder in your Assets folder called "screenshots" ? ;)

no... I also had a friend install his, he has similiar issues.... and as I stated I have the same set up with 5.2.4...NO issues...So clearly there is an issue...

This is a fresh install, tried 4 times.... and I have used Gaia, before, and Terrain composer for years..So I understand how this works.,

Maybe a little more info about your configuration and settings would be helpful. I'm not having Gaia issues with 5.3.1, so a blanket statement about Gaia and 5.3 is clearly incorrect. There has to be something else that you have installed or something with your and your friend's configurations that is different from mine and everyone else running Gaia successfully with 5.3. Also, an indication of what exactly you were doing in Gaia when you saw those errors might help too.

Screenshots of conworlds or constructed worlds can have some imposing similarities with images taken of the physical world. Images of the physical world can be taken with a device like a camera or captured in the mind and later painted in a studio.. I've taken the liberty of comparing two images, one from this forum and another by a celebrated artist named Thomas Gainsborough (1750), a man who captured images in his mind and painted them in oils.
What struck me is the similarity in hues and to some extent the content. When you compare the two techniques required to achieve the two images, they seem poles apart but they are still snapshots of a rural time and place. Perhaps not so dissimilar at all.

I have tested on 5.3.1 with no issues (admittedly I now test with the latest version). There have been no unity specific changes made. The only diff is that latest version has code that gets around the WebGL issue. To sort this in version one make sure your target platform is not WebGL.

You need to make sure the centre of your terrain is 0,0,0 - so on a 2048 terrain set it to -1024, 0, -1024. This is a limitation of stamper that I didn't notice until after launch.

Its not trivial to fix, so a proper fix will come when I release multi tile. Next release will offer to position the terrain correctly for Gaia if it notices that it is not centred.

For those that are having issues in 5.3.x, please PM me - maybe a Skype session will identify why you are getting issues.

I do really love playing with this stuff - most of the time I am pretty disciplined and just focus on getting the next release out - but when its time to play, with great tools and a good eye Unity can really shine :)

Is there a way to export the terrain as a 16bit file? the default seems to be just an 8bit one which on reimport
to a new project looks like a mincraft map thats lost it's detail

@S4G4N I got both your exteriors and interiors is it hard to do door tranistions like in Skyrim where you activate the door and go to an interior cell into the interior of the house? or is that done differently in Unity

I am an artist only, have no clue how to code or do that, but it is a widely used method, so I am sure one of the other guys that are coders will answer you on this :)

You could do this with a trigger collider where you load a new scene when the user presses a button which has the interior of the house all set up, or if you're wanting seamless transitions you coukd then make the door swing open to show the interior and as Cobus' kits are designed to perfectly fit together then you'd have a perfect combination

Hope this general response has helped :)

@smada luap Thank you, the second option sound great. I put the interior ito my world and deck out out with the goodies and when it's looking right I drop the exteriot ove the top then put a door script on the door?

    That's one way. :)

I'm going to do it the other way around and get the overall town layouts setup first using placeholder buildings (basically the grey building blocks from the exterior kit that you wrap all the beams/roofs/etc around) and then work on what goes inside :)

Ditto.. Although I'm probably going to use the wood wall cabin blueprinted houses as my placeholder ones. I may do a combination of buildings that can be entered by opening door and others by porting.. Not 100% sure yet.

My first attempt at creating terrain with Unity and GAIA:

Dont mind the snow, i was trying adding textures (opacity too high probably)
    Things used:
Terrain.party, Gimp, L3DT pro, Unity (duh), GAIA and erosion brush for natural erosion and sediment.
Hope i can make something less cliffy next time :p
Anyway, i dont have fancy camera effects, so making an in-game screenshot is basically this with grass.

Use the scanner and save the original terrain as a stamp by simply dragging the terrain object onto the scanner as I demonstrated in the Skype session.

You will not lose any precision this way.

I took the plunge and purchased this finally. I can't even try it though until this evening, but I'm super excited about creating my new terrains using Gaia instead of dreading another attempt with Terrain Composer. This is just one of those tools that is going to make game development so much easier.

I will just use Terrain Composer for now since I can't get Gaia working with 5.3... worked great with 5.2.4.. The masking is making no changes now either.. with 5.3 But like I said I will come back to Gaia at a later date.

    Thanks anwyays.

    Sigh...

for Shawn "This is a fresh install, tried 4 times.... and I have used Gaia, before, and Terrain composer for years..So I understand how this works.,"

This is a fresh install which if your unsure what that means.... Means that I removed the old asset, and open a fresh Unity file , with a new install of Gaia...and Gaia only...

    Please read before commenting...

PS: I also told Adam about some errors I got after I installed.. I opened up my old game I made for a client, which had 5.2.4, and I had no problems with Gaia... So I used 5.3 and Gaia for the first time, and that is the issue I had..I owned Gaia since it released.. The first few days..

This is my 4th game with GAIA..

I'm going to be trying Gaia tonight with 5.3 so I'm a little concerned about this as well. I'm hoping it doesn't happen to me. Can you post the exact errors from the console that you are getting? I didn't see that information anywhere in the thread. If I just missed it, I apologize.

Sorry I uninstalled it.. But once was a Null reference , and another was a index out of range I believe.. I don't have in front of me otherwise I would copy and paste it. Let me know how it goes for you.. From what a few said, they had no issues, but I talk to many developers that are having 5.3 issues, and not only Gaia, Unity itself.. So I would stand clear of 5.3..

I do this for a living. not a hobby so I don't have alot of time to deal with this nonsense. So it was better for me to use 5.2.4, since I know its fine..

I don't believe this is a Gaia issue more of a Unity issue. I had issues with some custom editor tools I made were bugged out in 5.3 as well. Not all of them but some.

Be sure to test Gaia alone like I did...

I'm kind of stuck with 5.3 right now so I hope I can get it to work. Were you using f1, p1, or p2? I understand p2 fixes a lot of issues.

EDIT: There is now a p3 as well.

I just did a test project this weekend with Gaia and 5.3.1p2. The only issues I ran into were that the File.IO doesn't have a full set of instructions unless you are using the Standalone module. If you are just set up to have mobile or others it will throw those errors.

Anyhow without further ado, here is my test scene. The goal is to make it look like toys on a small terrain. I purposely kept the terrain sharp and rough with less blending to make it appear more like something a kid might have in their room.

Hello again, so i thought i would leave my critique for this asset here. So far, loving the tool. however i feel like there should be an auto mask option where the mask slot takes your stamp and masks everything that is not total black. this would help for example if your trying to create a mountain chain and the base the of the stamp (the flat part) keeps creating 90 degree cliffs in unwanted areas. i understand this adds a 90 degree cliff around said mountain if not placed properly but you can hide those by stamping another mountan anyway. to get an idea of what im asking, choose a stamp, make a black and white mask from it, and stamp it with the stamp floating above the terrain.

With respect - my earlier screen shot showed Gaia working just fine with 5.3.1, a number of other people have also commented that it works fine.

It ought to be pretty clear from my activity in this forum that I pay close attention to issues, and if there is an edge case that is causing a problem then I want to know about it so that it can be resolved before the next release - or alternatively provide a work around before then.

I need more information than 'it doesn't work'.

Before using Gaia you need to have your defaults, and your resources in sync with your terrain. When you create a terrain using the typical Gaia work flow then Gaia handles this for you.

If you subsequently change terrain size, add and remove textures, details or trees and don't also update the gaia defaults and resources files, and any spawners you might have instantiated, then you will get the sorts of issue you have described.

I have done a lot of work in the next release to make this more seamless, however in the initial release if you follow the typical Gaia work flow then you wont get the issues you have described.

You already have extensive masking options in the stamper - and they are very powerful. Also - there is a 'Stamp Base' option that will exclude any of the stamp that is underneath the base level.

Here is a video on stamp masking:
