Cool. So it looks like CrazyTalk for $199 is the cheapest and easiest way to get areal face into a Avatar to use ?

Though it seems kinda a pain to have to go

    CrazyTalk -> Iclone character generator -> icone -> 3dxchange.. right ?

I've use Fuse, and I like what it's capable of. I especially like the Auto-Rigger (since I have a profound dislike of Weight Painting). But since it's been sold to Adobe, Mixamo seems to be shifting gears to try and accommodate less for game-devs and more for to help Photoshop. I feel like Adobe's purchase was to try get in on the Poser/Daz3D/iClone market.

Speaking of which, Poser/Daz3D/iClone use dials and morphs to get pretty close representation. I think iClone might have that department beat since they have tools to apply photos to those models. It's not perfect, but it certainly has its merits. You'd, at minimum need, iClone and 3DXchange in order to get it into Unity.

Currently Fuse is free, the CC version may require a subscription moving forward. The lack of information provided about their absorption into Adobe is frustrating. And while it works on a dial system as well, it's not as robust as the other systems, there'd be a lot more work to get the same results. Even more work if you're unfamiliar with pushing vertices around and generating normal maps.

Guess the question really comes down to "How accurate of a portrayal are you looking for?"
If you're not concerned about high representation, I'd say Fuse or MakeHuman. Auto-Rig or Rigify it and let Mecanim handle the rest.

Edit: http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/released-morph-character-system-mcs-male-and-female.355675/ There's also MCS... haven't tried it. But it's there. And they have a Lite version.

    right
Note > For the export, to Unity, you need to have 3D xchange 6 pipeline Version

I guess the main thing for me is the deepest integration with Unity so things you create in the authoring tools can easily work in Unity .. And maybe expose some extra parameters to allow you to control the biped in a more powerful way..

but because all the choices I don't know which to concentrate on learning

So for now I just try all of them and do some basic export

Poser is not for game really the characters tris counts are too high, yes you can animate them but it's hard and there's only some premade animations available on the internet.
iClone characters are good enough and realtime + big resources from marketplace but the quality is usually low.
Fuse is great cos it's free but the library is small, but you have to spend money for the animations.

The OP has ask for a head foto fitting, not for a usual Charcater Tool.
iClone Chartacter from Character Creator (Generation 6) looks great and is customizable and now also with foto head fitting. via Crazy Talk 8
    fuse do not this features
anyway, the Animation from mixamo are now free https://www.mixamo.com/pricing, since Adobe it adopted ( at the moment) and you can use it with iClone Character too.

I think the best Option is Iclone pipeline tools in this case.
