    Hi All,
I tried to post this in "answers", but when trying to set a topic, it says "no match found" and doesn't let me post this! It's like the Universe is against me... :(
I'm having a lot of trouble importing any audio asset into Unity, regardless of the version (I tried a 5.3.3, 2017.1 and the very latest 2018.2)
I'm running Windows 10, latest update.
The error reads: Errors during import of AudioClip Assets/Spitfire Orchestra 432 final 2.mp3:
FSBTool ERROR: An operating system based file error was encountered.
    Thanks for any insight!
    Sincerely,
    Marma

    two common causes are
    - it is too (*) long
    - it has a timestamp FSBTool can't deal with

(*) how exactly is too long nobody knows :) 0 try to split it until it imports
    ----
the above is assuming it is a validly encoded audio file overall

Thanks a lot for your quick reply!
The audio files are all quite different: some very short (less than 5 seconds), others long (a minute or so), it makes no difference.. I also tried a wide variety of formats so it's all audio are properly encoded.
As for the timestamp, what do you mean by that? And how do you go about to change it? :)

    - i would verify that the format it's *indeed* mp3 (by looking into actual data in the file - file extension might not match its actual content)
    - you can update timestamp by e.g. `touch`-ing it on linux/macos, on windows prob. google some file time changer or something (FSBTool has problems processing the file if its timestamp (date of creation) is in the future IIRC)

In the end, it was my antivirus which was blocking the unity compiler. I had to add a ton of unity executables to the list of exceptions. Hope that helps,!

Holy crap that's what's been causing this issue. Just uninstalled Avast and reimported, all the audio files imported correctly this time. Incredible.

Just in case someone using Linux is running into this issue: I had to reinstall my Editor, then everything worked again.
