I'd argue and say this guy is doing pretty well for himself with this game, it's being released on PS3 this month.

Sure, originally is great but if you're serious about success you need to consider what people want. Finding that balance is key in my opinion.

It's ok to criticize Slender games and such but I think it's the bigger picture that needs to be looked at. I don't know about you but I'd sooner make games that sell than burgers at McDonalds.

I think that the hate against slender comes from the eight pages one, which totally looked like crap, and imo it didn't deserve the attention that it got, not saying I'm better, because I haven't released any big game, I'm just saying that some games deserve way more attention than slender, especially eight pages, the arrival actually had pretty good graphic quality

Well at least that one has parsec involved, though I wouldn't pay 15 for it -- the standard price for a ps4 indie game right now.

So? criticising the game has nothing to do with making a living. Best not get those mixed up :)

Hating on a game is no reflection at all on the developer. And yeah, I think slender sucks (in all it's forms).

No, the hate comes from the fact that everyone and their mother is making them.

And that brings me to my first point, it got way more popularity than it deserved, and what happens when something gets popular? Everyone copies it.

No, the hate comes from the clones being created due to the success of one... if agent parsec's hadnt become popular, we wouldnt be seeing so many slender clones... same with flappy bird... it got popular, so the clones appeared... ppl think its ez money to copy something successful.

It sucks not cause they're successful but:
    1. not fun
    2. too many crappy copies
    3. not even scary
    4. no replay value
    5. mindless, slow walking around looking for a page
    6. bad mechanics. if i simply just look away and walk away, slender will never catch me. thats basically all you have to do to win

This doesn't mean I hate the devs. In fact, good for the devs. They made a lot of money over a stupid idea..... like the developer of Flappy Bird and Candy Crush.

Ah yes, Slender, the game that inspires you to kill your friends and set fire to your house ...

    What's not to love?

Only one in a [some big number here] of clones is truly successful, which is approximately the same percentage of original games that are truly successful, so going the original way (if you know what you're doing) still seems the best way to me.

But this game is actually the sequel to the original IIRC.

    Yes it is.

All games are clones of something.

Now now, that is a very silly thing that cloners* love to say. There is a colossal difference between being inspired and cloning.

    * Just to be clear I'm not saying you or the Slender The Arrival guys are cloners (I don't know anything about them). I'm just criticizing a badly thought out phrase

    Did they?

I thought one of the controversies about Slender was that the creator couldn't make money from it because it was buried in clones? (The question mark there is genuine. That's my vague recollection of something I wasn't particularly paying attention to, so it could be way off.)

I'd image him getting money at least from the steam one, I remember seeing a lot of fanboys going erhmagherd when the game was about to be released

I don't see this conversation evolving into anything other than a hatefest.
