Flexible subscription plan requires another monthly payment before cancelling

So I cancelled my subscription a few months back. Few days ago, I received another message that my flexible subscription was still working and required payment. I had extremely bad service with support before (they never answered to my payment problem), so before cancelling it (again) I paid for this months subscription, and then contacted support for cancelling it again.

Now apparently, before a cancellation can occur, I have to pay yet another monthly fee, even though my last payment was a few days ago. So to be able to cancel, I have to pay 2 months of subscription, on a product I don't use?

Last Unity version I downloaded was 4.3! How does this make any sense?

How long have you had the subscription? Last I was aware the subscription required a minimum period of 12 months.

I had a 12 month sub, paid all of it, and it transferred into a flexible sub this month (which I paid again just to get it over with). According to Unity FAQ, I can cancel any time, but according to support, I have to pay June 1st subscription before a cancellation can occur, even though I had already chosen the no renew option before it transferred into flexible plan.

What are your chances of using Unity again? There is not much recourse they can take if you simply don't pay it.

Worst case scenario you can always appeal to your local consumer protection law. It can get nasty, but most companies I've dealt with quickly discover work arounds to fix their system once you threaten to involve lawyers. Especially if you have a record of the original cancellation request.

Alternatively you can appeal to one of our community managers to help you.

Or you can just roll over and pay it.

Bunch of different options for you to pursue.

How did you contact Unity to cancel your subscription?

I love Unity and will continue working with this amazing technology for ages.. I really understand the challenges here (being a CTO for 15 years on medium and multinational companies, going back to indie on my spare-time!).

Said that, Unity 5 Personal has everything I need to work for now, so I also wanted to suspend my suscription for a while. They never replied back to me (nor sales rep nor support at unity). I find talking to my bank odd...

I used the support link just below the subscription page.

I don't want to start a legal dispute or end up having a discussion with my bank about this. I'd rather fix this with UT, but their support is just terrible. I don't get why I end up having to pay extra 2 months for just cancellation. I already said eff it and paid an extra month just to get it over with. Now they want another.

I haven't even used Unity once since August last year.

Well, if you're not using Unity anymore, it doesn't make any sense to continue paying!

In my case, I'm working on Unity and even I don't need Unity Pro for now (and I would like to suspend the payments...), it doesn't hurt me much since I also feel that I'm supporting Unity in someway... (And probably this neither make any sense since Unity would not gone free for Personal Edition if that would really hurt their business!).

Time to invite the big guns? This is probably more then the community can help you with.

I tried to clarify this with support, recieved an answer. Yes, basically, if you cancel a flexible subscription today, you have to pay for the next month.

Saying this is infuriating would be an understatement.

The same thing happened to me and then near the end of last month I got an email stating that I needed to update my credit card info so I could continue my subscription even though I cancelled it.

Our system processes all payments on the 1st of every month, if you're on flex you can cancel you subscription up until the last day of the month at 23:59pm BST and you won't get billed for the next month.

There are a few exceptions where the cancellations won't kick in automatically, such as those who have missed payments, been sent to collections, cancelled a previous flex subscription and then subscribed to add-ons and other edge cases.

And what is a flexible plan? How many months can we stay on a flexible plan before it expires? Do you have an URL where you explain with detail what is a flexible plan?
I cancelled my Unity Pro, Unity Android and iOS subscriptions on 8th April and I have to pay on 1st May for Unity Pro... and I really don't know how to activate the flexible plan.
    thanks

did you cancel during the month? or before the end of a month? you'll have to find out what their policy is for partial months. if you try and cancel on the 2nd or 29th say, would you be charged the whole month, a pro rated amount based on teh days you used it, or is there a cut off period? not sure if this applies to you.

Sorry to revive an old thread but I did get charged an extra month after I cancelled. Then I kept getting email stating that I needed to update my credit card even though I had cancelled and now I keep getting countdown emails saying my subscription is about to expire and suggesting that I should go flex. My pro subscription would have gone flex in January and I kept it a few months more before cancelling. Anyway my point is something is wrong with your system.

That doesn't sound right, could you send an e-mail to support@unity3d.com they can take a look at you account and see what's going on. Feel free to post the case number here so I can track it.

I haven't had any issues. But I can confirm that when I switched to flex(in order to cancel, since Unity5 went personal edition and all), that I still got a few e-mails trying to say something like my subscription would expire a few months later, and then I had the option to go flex. Each one counted down less and less time, then they stopped. I never got any issues with Unity trying to get payment from me after I cancelled, or that I should update my card or anything, but there is indeed something wonky going on in the system at some points.

    How is the story ended?

I think that the whole system is a bit confused and the Account page is not complete and lacks some clear options.

I ( guess ) am on flexi now ( after 12 months of sub ).
Let´s say i want to cancel the sub for Sep/Oct period, and then i want to re-sub for Pro in Nov.
Where is the magic button that allows to do this ?
Is that the same Cancel button that i find in the Account>Subscription>Manage page ?
Or i have to send an email, or ?

    Thx.

I basically just got the run around from support. I think that I used the cancel button on the subscription manage page. If you cancel I would also send an email to Unity so you have some sort of "paper" trail to show that you cancelled.
