[FIXED] Memory issues on Android since 2018.3.0f2

    We never used to have any memory issues when loading our world scene even with low spec devices, but since the update to 2018.3 the game crashes with the following error:

    This is on a OnePlus 6 and from what I see the game doesn't use a crazy amount of memory. Around 150 MB.
    Just before the crash there are logs saying:

    I actually wasn't 100% if it was Android only but it seems to be.
    Tested it on iPhone 5s, iPhone XR, iPad Air 2, PC and MAC and no issues or crashes there.

    On some Android devices the game also doesn't start, the screen just stays black. It doesn't even reach the splash screens. And in the log I see again some memory errors:

    I had the same issue. I use Gradle instead of the internal build system and it works fine.

    I have also set the scripting runtime version to .NET 4.x Equivalent instead of .NET 3.5 Equivalent and I use Mono instead of IL2CPP.

    I think before the update to 2018.3 we used .NET 3.5 with Mono and gradle building. After the update I tried all different kind of setups and now we are on .NET 4.0 with IL2CPP and Gradle. I tried several combinations but all of them keep having the same memory issues. So I doubt that it has something to do with these settings.

    Also, not all devices have issues on startup and the devices that have don't have it every game start, sometimes it does start. However, all of them have a huge frame drop and then crash when loading our world scene.

    For me it works only with Gradle, .NET 4 and Mono. All other settings give me the same memory issues as you.

    I double checked it and first I thought the issue was still there but it was also a development build. When I tried a release build the memory issue on startup was gone also when I turned it back from Mono to IL2CPP.

    Unfortunately, the crash from my first post when loading our game scene still persists.

    Not really...

    So the crash on game start only happens with Android Development builds, so for now we just ignore it since not all devices have this issue so our QA can still test on different devices.

    The crash when we load our world scene still is a mystery.
    I thought maybe it could be related to this issue:

    Since we do use blendshapes for the faces of our characters but trying to load the scene without characters still crashes the game.

    The first error looks like a OOM when compiling shaders (@aleksandrk FYI).

    The second one is an alignment issue (?) on early startup - if you could submit a bug we'll look into that. May be specific to the device (Xperia Z tablet with Krait CPU).

    We use quite some custom shaders but they haven't changed during the update from 2018.2 to 2018.3. Any idea why they could have worked in 2018.2 and not in 2018.3? (I know its a long shot) :)

    Could it be related to: https://issuetracker.unity3d.com/is...-when-setting-blendshapes-on-android-platform

    Other platform perform like expected.

    And the second one from what we tested it happens with development builds on the MotoG3, Nexus 9 and Xperia Z.

    I reported a bug with project files yesterday.

    hello we have the same memoryprofiler issue here during early application starting step on an Honor 7 (PLK-L01) with Android 6.0. (I post a screen of the phone specifications)

    Our steps to make the crash happens here :
    - Step 1 : Install the app
    - Step 2 : Plug the phone to the computer and make a link with "adb" (you must the the log from phone in monitor)
    - Step 3 : Unplug the phone and kill the app
    - Step 4 : Start the app again and the application crash.
    - Step 5 : Kill the application
    - Step 6 : Start it again it will work.

    Repeat the step from 2 and the issue will happen again.


    PS : Sometimes it seems to happen without all the step that we mentionned above. And it could just be random (but on the same device)

    We try those step with another phone (One Plus 5 with Android 9) and the problem doesn't occur

    We could maybe post here the crash log but it will be hard to submit an issue without our entire project.
    The issue seems to happen since Unity 2018.3.X.

    Have you repro something from your unity side @Yury-Habets ?

    In my case, I check `ARM64` and it's working.

    Release build <- all working
    Debug build
    .NET 4.x, Mono <- not working
    .NET 4.x, IL2CPP(`ARMv7`) <- not working
    .NET 4.x, IL2CPP(`ARM64`) <- working !!

    Could you please submit a bug-report, including a project to reproduce the issue, as described in this document:
    https://unity3d.com/unity/qa/bug-reporting

    Submitting a bug-report allows Unity Technologies to take a look at this issue. Even is someone else submitted a similar crash already, it doesn't hurt if you submit a bug-report as well. Some issues can't be reproduced by QA, so having more than one report is often from advantage.

    After you submitted the bug-report, you receive a confirmation email with a bug-report Case number. You can post this Case number (the number only, not the link) in this forum thread for Unity staff to pick up, in case they see it.

    I'm having the same problem. (Android Only)

    [2018.2] There was nothing wrong with the version.
    The same problem occurs in [2018.3].

    There is nothing wrong with [ios].

    Although nearly all build settings have been used, Android still has this problem.

    Hi everybody,
    My team have the same MemoryProfiler issue on a Samsung J5 android phone.
    But we could not find a better solution than downgrade to Unity 2018.2.20f1 for now.
    Unfortunately, we discovered that we lost all prefab data because some kind of incompatibility of the prefab system between the 2018.3 and 2018.2 versions.
    We're are studying about changing the YAML of the prefabs by hand, but it does not appear to be a good solution or even if it will work.

    Did anyone also had this issue?
    And what did you do to solve it?

    Unity Technologies reworked the prefabs system in 2018.3, this backwards incompatibility should be expected. Actually, Unity warns you about such incompatibility every time you open a project in a newer version.

    Best thing you can do is probably to restore one of your 2018.2 backups or keep working with 2018.3 and live with those issues until they fix them.

    The issue was not present in 2019.1.0a14. I haven't tried with 2019.1.0b1 but I assume it works the same as the alpha.

    Sorry for being a little pushy but the issue is currently blocking us from updating the game and people are getting impatient :)

    The problem is un our temporary buffer reuse code. I don't think there's any real workaround for it.

    Hey @aleksandrk I was using 2018.3.4 and was getting the same bug. Now updated to 2018.3.9 and still getting it.
    @Nieles_GH did you try it in 2018.3.9?

    We had some builds made with version 2018.3.9 at QA last week for testing and as far as I know no issues have been reported regarding performance or crashes.

    hi there, have you made such bug report? We're using 2018.3.14f1 and get a bug share the same symptom with yours, however, it's very hard to reproduce. Could you show me the issuetracker or bug report url address?
