If you are about to release a Unity game on Steam, my Gamasutra article might give you some helpful tips. Some mistakes were made, don't repeat them!

Clown House's first week on Steam

Most people were unable to download the game, even for a short time, in Steam. This article explains what mistakes I made and how to prevent them.

Interesting write up. Thanks for sharing your experience. A lot of post mortems focus on big mistakes made over the course of development and I like that yours focused on mistakes made in the Steam launch process. Small but crucial mistakes anyone might make. Good lessons for everyone, thanks again.

It seems to me that you could have avoided a lot of drama by having some testers before release. That's why you can get pre-release keys (the yellow package): for testers and press.

Also I agree with your opinion about Greenlight, the process is too arbitrary to be handled by an algorithm.

Cool post! I saw this game on Jim Sterling's channel a while back, looked enjoyable. I'll see if I can pick it up whenever I get time. Congrats!

    Thanks, everyone.

Yes, I should had beta-tested before. I will certainly do it in the future games.
