Today Austin based virtual reality studio, Ghost Machine, launches its newest virtual-reality flight combat game, Final Strike. The new game is described as an edge-of-your-seat F-16 jet fighter simulator that puts you against an airborne alien invasion. The game action, which can be seen on the company's website is reminiscent of popular invasion films like Independence Day.

The announcement of Final Strike promises to entertain players who have eagerly awaited news of the game release after recently being greenlit for inclusion on the Steam VR digital downloading service. Ghost Machine has confirmed that players who buy the Alpha, will receive the full version of the game once it is released on Steam. The alpha version of the game is playable with the DK2 Oculus Rift Development headset, which can be obtained through the Oculus VR website .

When asked, CEO Neal Nellans, was enthusiastic about the Alpha launch: "The Final Strike launch is a new milestone for Ghost Machine. We're excited to launch the game for Oculus DK2 developers and enthusiasts and look forward to continued feedback from the VR community.".

Steam Greenlight is a system that enlists the community's help in picking new games to be released on Steam. Steam is an internet-based digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer, and social networking platform developed by the Valve Corporation. This March, Valve announced a virtual reality headset that would be developed in collaboration with HTC, called the HTC Vive.

Located in the backlot of the Austin Studios production facility, Ghost Machine VR currently has eight virtual-reality games in production, including Zombie Taxi Apocalypse, which challenges players to complete a work day as a taxicab driver in an apocalyptic zombie-filled Manhattan.
