Working with a class of students (mostly Macs) and from time to time they would get various errors in the console and not know what they were. ALL of these errors were coming from the Unity IDE itself and it was confusing the students as they would think that they are doing something wrong because they were getting an error, but its really Unity having a 'conversation with itself' about build slaves or 'MSAA not working' and so forth.

It would be useful for newbies is this was turned off by default so they wouldn't freak out and think that someone was wrong. Those of us who are interested in Player logging certainly know how to get access to it, so it seems to be safer to not output that to the console by default.
