Instead of installing every single unity version that comes out, can we just keep the couple of versions needed for projects in production, and have the option to have one version that we keep updated by installing over it, instead of having to manually delete the editor files we don't want.

it would be nice if that was an option, but wasn't the whole point of unity hub so you could stay on one version and work on projects with different versions?

like right now i have a project in 2017.4.2f2, which i thought was an lts version, but now it shows 2017.4.26f1 is the lts version, and like you say i cant just upgrade that install to it, i have to install a separate version first.

Why install every version though, unless your awaiting for a specific fix. Why go through all the work, testing, etc...

If you work on more than one project you'll appreciate the way Hub works. It's significantly easier to manage versions and hop between projects with Hub. You just open hub, click the project, and it's there. No guesswork, no dozens of Unity icons for different versions and different projects, just click.

It's when you only have one real project or don't care what version you're on that it seems useless. Then you get the same click workflow but think it's more of a hassle because it's one more step than it used to be where you just opened Unity via your one desktop icon.

Why is it a bad idea? Have the couple of versions required by your projects, and then an editor that is the latest one to try out your stuff, instead of installing x.xx and then needing to remove x.xx-1.

    I have currently 3 versions of Unity installed, 2017.4.26, 2018.3.14 and 2019.1.1.

All used at the same time for the same project even. Would be a pain todo without Unity hub. Only gripe is that Library folder that eats expensive nvme space

https://forum.unity.com/threads/fast-update-button.670618/#post-4490626 If you want you can search for my other answers as well. Although mostly the same: update Unity versions without deliberate uninstall/install is extremely dangerous for less experienced users. For those who want this simplified update.

The old unity update did it like that, uninstalled Unity and then did a fresh install.
I don't care if it takes time. or it could be an opt-in check box for a particular install.

I'm all in for workflows that simplify my daily life. Though in that thread you posted it seems they do not want to change the functionally of Hub, just that it automatically deleted old version of lets say 2017 LTS and installed the new one. Thats not what OP wants as I understands it?

Or you could just do it yourself. A huge reason Hub does things the way it does is because the old way was incredibly cumbersome to deal with and nobody really liked it.

I work on a Mac and managing multiple installs before Unity Hub was a pain. I've been using Hub since it first became available and appreciate the regular updates. A couple of small features that I'd love to see in the future:

    • Allow assigning a local alias to a project. This would really help when dealing multiple branches of the same project. Currently, when looking at the project list in Hub I have a screen full of the same project name and the only way to distinguish between them is to look at the path
    • Allow organizing projects into folders. This would help when dealing with multiple branches of multiple different projects

Can you add the feature of pause download editor and restore the percentage of completion when downloaded again in unity hub just like free download manager. Many with slow network connection will be benifited.

I'd like the ability to organize my long list of project into folders in the Hub ui (independent how they're organized on the file systems). And/or add tags.
