Rendering shadows can absolutely crush the performance of an app on a mobile device. This asset offers many ways to speed up the rendering of soft shadows at various quality levels.
    • Runs on older Android hardware such as the Nexus 7 and Ouya, which are not supported by Unity’s built-in softshadows.
    • Performs the lighting and shadow sampling in one pass unlike the included Unity Surface shaders. This alone can boost performance 10-20% on some devices.
    • Supports both self-shadowing and simple projected shadows for max performance
    • Set how often the shadowmap is updated
    • Includes several shaders which offer different levels of visual quality vs performance such as PCF filtering and edge clipping
    • Full source included for complete control over where and when shadows are rendered
    • Ideal for mobile VR where only one shadowmap should be rendered for both eye views (Google Cardboard SDK can't do this with built-in shadows).
    • Fully integrated with the editor
I'm nearly done with the asset and it works great! At this point I would like to test it on more Android devices and smooth out any setup issues people may have.

Added a new image - as you can see the projected shadows don't have self-shadowing, but they still look great and run many times faster than standard shadowmapping. Both types are supported in this asset for almost all Android hardware including Ouya and Nexus 7.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I'm hoping to get this in the store this week, there's still time to try it out for free, just shoot me a message.
