Sounds like you are a guy like me :D

Iam working at an factory and when i have the time over at home so do i like to do some modelling, textures and programming.

And when i found unity for free so whas i in heaven as your texture and modell feedback whas instant.

simply drag a few modells and textures and you could see them in action on screen.

When you are a 36 year old factory worker so does you not have that much time to do games anymore

But with unity so is it very fast to prototype ideas and see how well they workout

    Nice work :D

let me give you some advice.

if you build a wall or stucture you should give it a collider. otherwise people will be able to pass right through it.

also you should build it expecting people to stray from the path. just cause there is a spacific way you want them to go to see everything doesnt mean they will go that way.

Beautiful work, this is a true inspiration and a testament to the power and beauty of the Unity engine.

I hope to make my rpg's world look as awesome as this.

The cloud movement looks nice - a bit too fast, but nice.

What's lacking is shadows on the ground from the clouds. I'm working on something much like that, and am having some pretty good success using a projector with the hacked terrain shaders that were just posted. If you're interested, send a PM.

Here the next building that I'll include in the zone.
It's a kind of temple that I will place outside the temple zone. Near this temple, I will add houses and streets.

    Hi!
With Raoul's help (thx to him!) I can now export trees coordinates in a txt file.
In maya I wrote a little mel script to read this file and place billboards at the same position than in unity.
My mel script read the object name and replace for example all *Pine* by my billboard pine.
Now, I have trees shadows in the lightmap! Raoul's tool get lightmap color and change trees color according to their positions (with variations).
Here somes screenshots of the result:

    That is really great..

Any chance you can post the tree position export script? I might like to try and do something similar with Blender..

No MMORPG, I'am alone and I don't have a team of 100 peoples behind me :)

Actually I count +- 65 hours of work on it.

Your world would be great to set a game in, though. Maybe some sort of open-world game or RPG?

I am amazed. Everything looks wonderful. You really should make a game out of it - or collaborate with someone, I'm sure there will be plenty of programmers here that would want to work with an artist like you.

Sanctum zone in progress, walls and house are done in modeling. Now I have to unfold uvs and apply textures. After, scult the terrain and place trees correctly. When it's done, calculate lightmap for this zone.
But I can't wait to show you the wip of this part:

    Few questions botumys:

Did you texture the entire world by hand, or use tom's terrain tools/ the terrain toolkit for a "base coat"?

Same with the terrain, was any of it procedurally generated with heightmaps, or did you sculpt it all by hand in unity?

Also, what is the dimensions of the terrain in unity?

All textures are painted by hand.
The terrain is sculpted by hand too :)

Did you use splat maps or did you model the terrain in another 3D app and texture it? I can't see how you'd get such good terrain textures without using a splat map otherwise they'd be very blurry.

I don't know about you, but my splat maps are never blurry. Have you tried changing the aniso setting for the textures on your splat map?

My splat maps turn out beautiful as I use Tom's Terrain Tools.

However, when I was examining his terrain, I thought there was more than 4 different textures. I'd stand in an area and count the different textures...trail, rock. grassy in a small area.

He's probably hand painting them in Unity and using a good texture that would blend with another quite well to make it look like a totally different texture.

I've got a sand, grass, rock and a rock/sand mix. I'd like to be able to get some sort of road and dark trail system in there that would have a different texture look.

I've been trying to think through his terrain techniques as he does an excellent job at it. This is a great terrain study example.

I have 12 different textures and I paint them directly in unity using Opacity first and Target Strength to mix for example grass on rocks to colorize them.

So you actually (have) Load 12 different textures into the Unity Paint? Doesn't more than 5 or 6 cause optimization problems?

I always thought you couldn't have more than 4 terrain textures (or maybe this was just with the engine I was using before switching to Unity), but I thought this had to do with the video card not the game engine.

Yes, maybe 4 is for older videocards and I think that my world is not visible on them. But I am pleased by creating this zone and my goal is only to push unity to its limits :)

I am unsure whether or not there are issues with more than 4 terrain textures on older graphics cards.

But my understanding is that Unity combines 4 textures per splat map. So if you use 1-4 textures there should be 1 splat map, 4-8 textures would make 2 splat maps (so if you use 5 terrain textures there should still be 2 splat maps created).

yes it's because that I have 12 textures, to avoid to create another splat map only for one texture.

Here the Sanctum wall finished :

Hey, use www.solidfiles.com and if you could would you be able to upload a standalone so we can set it to a higher resolution, the default 1024x768 looks blocky on a 30" display
