Hi, my name is James and I'm an occasional lurker here. Mostly, I browse forums to see other people's art, and that usually gets me motivated to do something myself. Anyway, I created this small project for my 3D modeling and texturing portfolio. It's not a game, just an animation that was assembled and rendered in Unity 5.

I was going to use UE4 to put my project together, but I saw Unity 5 and it looked fantastic. So I spent a lot of time trying to figure out lighting and how to set up my PBR textures, but it was fun and definitely a learning experience. I was very happy with the turnout.

Thanks to everyone who took a second to check this out!

For a quick rundown: modeling -Maya, Blender; sculpting -Maya,Mud; textures -Photoshop; lighting/Rendering -Unity

Also, these are stills from the full animation. I'm not sure if I can post links here. If someone responds and tells me I can, then I'll post a link to the youtube video. Or you can search YouTube for "Unity 5 Mythical Dining Hall". I'm not trying to spam the video, there aren't any ads or subscribers or anything like that. I'm just looking to share my art with other artists and/or Unity users. Thanks again!

Wow this looks beautiful! Did you make and texture the models yourself? Impressive. Yes you can embed a Youtube Video here. :)

Thanks! I made everything except for the scripts that were used. I used Maya for most of the modeling, but I did use Blender for a few props. I painted all of the textures in Photoshop. I actually used Maya for most of the sculpting as well, I was really trying to the give the new sculpt tools a chance, but that wasn't the best idea. They're nice to have, but slow.

Okay, so here's my video. My brother wrote me a quick script to save the renders at different resolutions, sizes, and file types. So I rendered out several cameras throughout the scene and did a quick compositing job in Blender. All of the other camera effects are from the standard assets package. Also, the music is awesome; it's by a musician that goes by "Circus Marcus", and he seems like a really cool guy from our limited interactions. The moment I heard it, I knew it would be perfect for this scene. Best if you can watch it in HD! Thanks for watching!

Damn that's awesome! Looks AAA scene. This reminds me of Prince of Persia , that game also had rooms decorated like
that. All this is done by a single modeler , so great :)
    Keep it up dude!

Thanks for the comparison and the youtube comment! I can't wait to have time for another project, especially after looking at several of the games and animations posted here.

Great stuff, but for some reason the wall texture doesn't matches the rest of theme. That's what I think.

Maybe, but I don't really have a problem with the wall texture. Personally, I didn't get my wood textures to the point that I want them, but that's part of the learning process!

Yeah, my between-semester break just started, but it's only 3 weeks, so I'm reluctant to start a new project, but I really want to work on something I'm invested in.

Are you in a video-game, or animation program?

    Cool!
I use both do animation , programming , modeling and of course developing/designing in Unity.
I was currently working on a game project with my friend. Hopefully the game will be released at the end of December of in the start of January :)
Other than that , I have many unfinished projects including 3D Platformer, Top Down camera and 3rd Person Shooter Games games.

It's awesome that you're doing all of that at such a young age! There are several older people in my program that have barely touched a game engine.

Having a passion for what you do will definitely help you succeed. Keep at it and don't ever get discouraged.

Send me a link, or message me if you release your game.

Thanks :DD Yeah I started at 14 and I'm very happy that despite of studies , I learned game development so much as well.
I often decide to give up in between , thought I wouldn't be able to catch that but then I had that passion that kept me driving on this road. Check out the screen shots of my unfinished 3D Platformer project.

Except trees , everything you see is done by me.
The game name is LEVARIAN. About a boy who has the ability do his stuff through magic , he's in a world
full of objectives and adventures. This is the project I haven't touched for last 3 months. I'll replace the character with a new better one. This one looks more like Mario lol , also have to add so much new stuff.

    Sure , I'll tell you :)
