I use version 2019.3.14f1. I got the same error message even after I tried changing the pathway and shortening the name. What should I do?

I just got this with 2021.1.3f1 on a brand new install with an URP template. I had to reinstall, restart and relocate the project folder to a folder with a shorter path name and without any spaces and it started to work

In my case, none of the steps to fix it worked by themselves, but doing them all together in that order finally worked

I had the same problem trying to start URP project after updating to Unity 2019.4.24f1.
I just placed all my files and the directory they are in closer to the root of my harddrive ie c:\server\unityfile\projectName

this seems to have done the trick for me as well.

I'm getting this today. Hub at 2.4.3, Unity at 2020.3.5f1.
Path and project name are very short and there's plenty of free disk space.

    - EDIT -
Just noticed that 2020.3.6f1 was released today.
It seems to be working fine on the new version.

Try shorter path name and without gaps or any special characters or numbers.

For me finally worked when i made path very much smaller.

had this with latest unity as well (2020.3.8f1). changed the file path to a folder with no spaces and it fixed it as well. has it been posted to unity as a bug? or is it just not obviously documented that this template cant run with spaces in the file path?

I fixed this by giving the file a shorter name, also updating unity and the hub won't hurt.

I started hub with admin privs and it launched the downloaded project. From new user perspective this is a usability bug that puts a blem on the shiny newness

That's funny, updating to the latest (release) version of Unity Hub is what cased it for me. In fact, with the latest version of Unity Hub, I can no longer create any new projects with any version of Unity 2019.4, through Unity Hub. I can create new projects with Unity 2020.3, but not with Unity 2019.4.

    Edit:
It would seem that the cause was the length of the template filepath when placed into the project folder. In my case that was "D:\Dev\Unity\UnityLearn_Official\Realtime Animated Storytelling\[Project Name]"

I think there's different solutions for different people, I tried making the part shorter but it didn't work so I just reinstalled unity hub and now it works fine.

So here's what I did to fix it
    1. I went to the folder where my template file is
    2. Then I decompress it manually
    3. Then I change the name of the decompressed folder (from package to com.unity.template.3d-5.0.4.tgz) the exact name of the zip file

Hope it works for you guys

it seems that when trying to save in a shared space such as onedrive or google docs it can not be compressed. Saving this to the C drive directly works. I used the unity program folders.

in my case: there was a problem in the files, so I delete the template "com.unity.template.lego" from (" C:\Users\MyPC\AppData\Roaming\UnityHub\Templates ") and install the template again and the problem soleved.

Just running into this error now first time ever, trying to create a Unity URP project. There seems to be no option to check for Unity Hub updates in the hub itself.

it seems to have to do with the path where it is saved

It worked for me to put a shorter name

I suppose that if I want to give it a long name, I only have to save it on the desktop and then move the project into the folder I want and then add the new location of the project in the HUB

One more with the issue, had to create my project "p" and then it worked. Renamed it after it was created.

This issue only happens with the URP package for me, maybe the package name is too long that it breaks some internal string or something like that.

    My version: 2020.3.14f1
But I remember having this issue with previous versiosn too.

Not gonna lie, in my case I did, in fact, create a longer than usual project name. As soon as I renamed it to a human readable title, it worked. It's on Windows, mind you, it has limits for paths, I ran into problems like that before while doing other things than Unity things.

The irritating thing for me though is that with the release of Windows 10 1607(*) (i.e. five years ago) Microsoft removed the 260 character limit. But, long paths are disabled by default - a group policy change or registry edit is needed to actually enable them - and apps also need updating so that Windows knows they are able to use long-paths.

All this is moot though because as far as I'm aware nether the Unity editor nor player have been changed to be long-path aware.

    (*) Source: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/fileio/naming-a-file#maximum-path-length-limitation

Not sure if this is a fix, but I just double clicked a scene file and it opened Unity on it's own without the need for the screwed up hub.

Just creating a project in a temp folder with not too many characters in the path did the trick for me.. (eg c:\tempfolder\myproject) then you close the project, move the whole thing to where you really want it stored on your driver.

Pretty dumb that this issue still exists in the latest Unity hub tbh.

Just shorten the path where you are saving the Unity projects and try not to include spaces in your project name. Worked for me.

Can someone help me with this error?
I'm trying to use version 2019.2.4 but I get this everytime I want to create a new project. Getting shorter names, shorter paths, unistall and reinstall and nothing seems to work.

Nothing is working for me, I'm on 2020.3.30f1. I've restarted my computer, shortened the path length, made the file name very short, nothing is working. I've read through this thread and I've shortened the file path like everyone said worked but it's still giving me the error. I need help

Using Unity Hub 3.1.1 and Unity version 2020.3.31f1 and got this issue like others as well, but I just realized that I didn't pay attention to the default version of Unity above that got set automatically when creating a new project which was 2020.3.32f1 so I changed it to the correct installed Unity version on my laptop 2020.3.31f1 and it worked fine, I hope this helps.

Same problem here: Unity Hub 3.1.2, using Unity 2020.3.30 (LTS), project path is under 75 characters (75 characters is way too low if that's still the limit). Restarting Unity Hub didn't help. Uninstalling that editor version and installing 2020.3.33f1 didn't help either. No spaces in the name didn't help................

I solved this problem. In my case was the version that i was using for create the project, that (i don't know why) unityHub was using an old disinstalled version. When you click "New Project", on top of the window you can change "Editor Version". Choose a version that you have installed, and all will work (or at least in my case was that).
Sorry for bad english, hope is understable. upload_2022-5-29_12-12-15.png

Ok so Im not sure who has said this yet, but what worked for me, (using version 2019.2.6f1) was just uninstalling Unity Hub and running unity on its own. it's not the most optimal, but it does work. take this from someone who isn't actually making a game lol
